Look, if you want to walk around like a super hotshot with your loaded rifle in public, and it isn't illegal, go for it.

What is it about the right to keep and bear arms don't you understand?

The same thing goes for voting democrat and wearing religious symbols. Even though you might feel uncomfortable that does not give you the right to suppress the rights of others.

I thought it was the beginning to a joke.
lol I had the same reaction. Add a priest and a lesbian vegan activist and this could be strategic level humor.

this reminds me: we haven't heard from Westboro in the last week...wonder what in the hell they are up to? :hmm:
My guess is trying to wash off the stank for their upcoming yearly inbreeding.

You should change your name to whoosh.

I invite every gun owner to go into society brandishing a loaded weapon, and carry it every place you go, from now until the end of time.

This isn't some libruul hatin' on 'Murrica. This is me saying the same thing others have said. This guy seems like a jackass. Go, express your second amendment right to look cool with a gun while purchasing bread and milk.

Go for it. I live in Georgia. I see it every now and again.

But, again, if you go into a mall with a rifle, and you delusionally think you won't be approached by some security guard or cop, then that's on you. Why?

Because 99.99% of the population of the US does not carry a rifle to Starbucks or the mall.

And if this guy is in trouble with his employer for breaking a regulation or standard of conduct, then this isn't some "libruls are comin' to take your guns" story.

It's a story where an organization that focuses on using weapons has an issue with their employee walking around public with a weapon.

Again, this isn't a partisan issue. You can defend the dumb ass all you want. Doesn't change the fact that he's a dumb ass.

the kevlar vest and magazines point to him being a huge dumbass or mentally deranged.

A soldier traveling with military fatigues and his rifle is normal.

Doing unnecessary stuff such as going into a mall is pushing it.

Walking around with visible magazines and combat gear? It makes people think you're about to exact revenge against the world.

Why would you need a kevlar vest in a civilian setting, unless you're planning to get in a confrontation with the police or a gang (both illegal)?

After seeing the guy in tunisia walking around with his AK before massacring everyone, and people in the US thinking that we should be completely okay with a person walking around with a bullet proof vest and a rifle I can now say it's quite obvious that open carry of rifles is stupid and should be outlawed--and it will be, I'm sure. I think few states allow it anyway because it's just silly.

I have no problem with people concealed carrying handguns.

it's fucking shitheads like this shit that make it bad for people who are pro-gun.
^ pretty much that.

IMO, for a lot of people who support more firearms regulation it's not a hatred of firearms it's "What the fuck else can you do when idiots fuck around with them and sometimes get themselves or others killed?"

thought NC was a pro-gun Repub state?

Open carry is legal in NC. That said, local municipalities ( like the larger metro areas) can arrest you for being a Terror to the Public such as he was.

We have a guy here in Matthews, NC just outside Charlotte that walks through town open carrying a sidearm. If he did that across the city line in Charlotte, they would arrest him.

There are two problems there.

1. The municipalities don't actually make it know they will do this. After all, state law allows it.

2. It is still common sense on the part of the gun owner to determine what is allowed or not before they do something like this.

Both are to blame, but the gun owner was the one most at fault here.

General Officer Memorandum Of Reprimand. Less severe than a court martial but generally career ending.

I never heard of a GOMAR when I was in the Navy. Though I did know of some that received a Letter of Reprimand but not for a junior enlisted. These were usually given to Officers and Senior NCO's for actions unbecoming of their positions. I suspect this soldier will be given an article 15 (Captain's Mast in the Navy).

That was my experience while in the Army, but they may handle things differently nowadays. He would have gotten non-judicial punishment and charged under Article 134 in Article 15 proceedings, and a bar to reenlistment to boot. Perhaps now they just skip straight to an official reprimand from the local 2-star, I don't know.

You really didn't need to explain that
Every other poster here has served.
You can tell because they use all the acronyms and can cite .mil law

Actually, thanks for explaining it. I think the folks here who haven't served appreciate it. My head is filled with IT acronyms, and it's got no room for military acronyms.

It is, open carry is fine. But there are some limits places on it and full battle regalia with the kevlar vest and multiple clips crosses the line.

http://nccriminallaw.sog.unc.edu/going-armed-to-the-terror-of-the-people/

Problem is that law says "arms himself or herself with an unusual and dangerous weapon for the purpose of terrifying others and goes about on public highways in a manner to cause terror to the people"

They have to prove his line of thought, the weapon was "unusual and dangerous", let alone the highway issue. If I was charged with that I would ask for a Judge over a Jury trial and argue that I had no intent to terrify and make the state try and make its case.

The law seems very vague. Unless he was saying or acting weird a decent attorney could have a field day with it if that is the only charge.

I don't know the political persuasion of the cops that arrested this neckbeard, and I'm sure you don't either, but you might want to consider that before spouting off.

Would you be asking this if he was a Somali American named Amiin and he did it in a crowded mall on July 4th? That's all that matters!!!!

Brian

Yes, I would be asking the same thing. What you think is "crazy" does not always equate to being illegal.

I guess he thought he'd look soooooo cool doing that. Of course, it wouldn't look as good as casing the rifle and bagging the field gear so as not to attract attention to himself, but it looks like that's exactly what he wanted, IMO.

Yeh, he sure did get some attention.....just not in the way he expected.

Here's a personal experience about military being armed in public I'd like to share for the LOL's:

This is back in the early 70's after getting back from "Nam and joining a reserve unit. I'm driving back to Ft. DeRussy in Waikiki in my jeep after spending the weekend on manuevers up in the hills just outside of Schofield Barracks. I got a sidearm strapped on, my M-60 and 3 M-16's in the back seat all assigned to 0-3's and up. I'm in full field gear with mostly worn-off camo still on my face and jeep insignias and glass subdued in mud and OD tape.

I'm stopped behind a tour bus in the far right lane in front of the Ilikai Hotel. I get rear-ended by a Coastie on leave turning right without looking ahead of him.

My jeep gets its' rear quarter panel corner jammed into the rear right tire. I'm OK, so I jump out and see if the guy that hit me is OK. He's OK but kind of in shock a lil bit. I try to radio in but 'net is already down, so I need to find a phone to call in a sitrep. The nearest place I could think of is the front desk inside the hotel, but here I have all of these weapons that I'm personally responsible for and I'm not about to leave them in the jeep while I go into the hotel to make the call.

Soooooooo, I gather up all the weapons, sling and carry however I can, enter the hotel and as invisibly as I could, strode through the hotel lobby, went up to the front desk, ignored all of the gawking tourists and asked the desk clerk very politely if I could use their phone to call in the accident I got into. After a few minutes talking to a very irate E-7 Motor Pool wrencher who owned the jeep, I quick-marched my way back out into the street and already there's MP's on site with the WTF look on their faces looking at me like WTF was I thinking. Wrecker shows up, armory guys show up, local cops show up.... I was waiting for the news crews to show up with all of the fuss being kicked up, all over a simple little fender bender.

I never ever said anything to anybody about what I had to do to get to the nearest phone, or my shitting bricks over a possible shit-storm ass-ripping meet-up with the battalion CO over what happened. Ha.
