Your 13-14 month old child is crying and throwing a fit.
What do you do?

This is not regarding my kid (because I don't have any kids).

Depends on what kind of parenting technique you subscribe to.

I personally would let the kid cry himself out.

Depends what they are throwing a fit about. If he is hungry, then feed him.

Edit: Kids don't just cry for no reason. I need to know why before I can say what I would do about it.

if he is hungry--FEED-HIM

if he s wet--- change him

if he s tired-- talk em to sleep

its not rocket science you just need patience

theres a lot of jokes to be had with this thread

but ive been there --done that and its what worked for me

If you're at home and know they're fed and dry, just let them stew. Ignore it AMAP. My patience easily wears thin.

as everyone said depends.

if tis because thebaby is hungry or tired deal with it.

if its because they want candy or such and throwing a hissy fit then ignore it.

they could be teething... that is very painful. He could not feel well.
I have heard good things about the "leave them be" method and also on the other end of a spectrum, try picking him up and comforting him.
Also, i have read that if you speak softly to them, they will quiet down to try to hear the voice.

depends on a lot of things.

Is there a real problem? Or is the kid just throwing a temper tantrum?
Are we in public or at home?

If there is a problem, I would do what the kid needed.

If it were a temper tantrum and we were home, I would put it in it's room and ignore it.
If it is a temper tantrum and we are in public, I would probably take it to the nearest bathroom or to the car and smack him in the ass and tell him to cut it out or there is more to come.

well, i don't know why she would be crying but my sister just yells at my niece when she does this stuff. I don't think she's hungry or wet. I just hear the kid bawling and then i hear my sister yell at her.

i'm just like, WTF? she's just a baby, don't scream at her.

U love it whe someone smacks their kid up side the head in line and then yells at them for crying.

Me too, as long as they're crying for no reason. However, most of the time if you let kids do this, they'll learn pretty fast that crying's not going to get them anything and they'll do it less. If a kid cries constantly for seemingly no reason, there might be something wrong that a parent wouldn't immediately see.

Yelling at a baby when they cry doesn't seem like an effective method, though. Good luck to your sister with that.

If it's just a temper tantrum, get them interested in something else. If it's not, figure out why they are crying and remedy the situation. My 14 month old doesn't cry much but has started temper tantrums every now and then... But we usually just redirect her to something else and she's fine.

At just over a year old I don't think most babies have a concept of "temper tantrums". So reasoning isn't going to work.

I have a 1 YO and a 3 YO and the older boy is just now trying to pull the public tantrum crap. I just camly get down to his level, look him in the eye, and tell him that crying 'outside' when he isn't hurt or scared is not allowed. He usually responds pretty well; the 1 YO probably has no idea why he is crying unless it is one of the aforementioned reasons.

A 14 month old is starting to learn a bit, but is still a baby. You need to determine why the child is crying.

Your sister is a tool.

( I have 2 kids, I feel I'm qualified to make that statement! )
