Thanks for the heads-up. But, (you knew this was coming, so I might as well be first in line!) for about $30 less, I can get a GF4 4600 which beats the stuffings out of this here Matrox card. I had high hopes for it, as a direct competitor for the 4600 would force NVidia to lower prices...but alas, once again, Matrox falls flat on their collective face. Sad. I'm not poking fun; on the contrary, I am disappointed that NVidia still has the ability to quote whatever price it wants for a GAMING videocard.

Yes, I know Its for public info only (disclaimer: it does not reflect my preferences or future buying plans). I already have a Ti 4400, Ti 4200 and a couple of GF3's and I'm very happy with all of them.

Heh, I hope you don't think I was busting on 'ya too badly. I was just messing w/you.... Many folks (AMISH?) preordered a Parhelia...they had high hopes. But after I paid $350 for my plain jane GF3 about a month after it came out, I told myself: "self, never again will you bend over and hand the person behind you the vaseline....you will wait to see what the dealio is!" Hence, my avoidance of the Parhelia bandwagon.

Actually im excited to see Matrox stepping up and producing a performance video card. This is a big step for them, who in the past have had nothing to do with performance. This card is still good for many things, and hopefully in the future they will produce something that can outperform nVidia and cause more competition!

In canada, this thing is selling for 530CDN for a OEM version ! Wow ... i like matrox ...but this is too expensive. if the price lower by 200cdn maybe i will buy it. great card with good driver support.

I too am glad Matrox is getting into the 3D market, albeit this card doesn't cut it in my opinion. The more competition to Nvidia the better.

This card really isn't THAT bad. These guys are way too geeked out to know a good card. Just because it doesnt win all the benchmarks doesn't mean it's automatically a bad card. Only problem is it's pricing point. BUT, consider how much Nvidia charges for their latest crap, and you'll notice it's not too bad.

Personally i don't care about winning benchmarks. I care about 2d and having good 3d (not bragging rights, playability at good resolutions). I'm still using a Radeon 8500 (a very happy 2d change from that junk Nvidia dishes out) and the Parhelia should be even better.

I totally agree with you LikeLinus. I think the problem is, a lot of people here just use their computers to play games all day long, and so they just want the fastest 3D possible. If a card doesn't have the greatest 3D mark score it's automatically a "crappy card". Good for them if they're happy with they're geforce's, but I don't really appreciate it when they make fun of people who actually need a more "serious" card, or when they make fun of such products.
For someone like me (computer engineer, programmer and web site designer), the Parhelia is the best card I can currently get.

I hate all this crapping on NVIDIA's 2D. I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4400. With Digital Vibrance Control enabled, it is as good as a Radeon 8500 in 2D. I have no stability problems so this is the card for me. I don't understand some of the hatred towards NVIDIA.

how much Nvidia charges for their latest crap, and you'll notice it's not too bad.

This latest "crap" is cheaper than the Parhelia but it still hammers it in every worthwhile benchmark.

I don't want to offend you or start a flame war, my friend, but I just didn't find your comments very constructive for a General Hardware thread. You'll probably tell me that about 90% of the posts aren't constructive or don't add any significant info and you'll probably be right, but as "higher" members you (we) should set the example.

Yes, I feel the irony in the "mere $341" part of ranDum's post, but his thread is still useful for people interested in buying the card. If it wasn't it would've been in OT.
