I have no idea. I don't follow the celebrity stories or anything but I assume there has been no attempt to appeal, no attempt to bribe, and no attempt to assist the authorities in determining how and where her time will be spent. Money = power and I'm sure if her family does not want her in jail she will not be in jail.

To put it another way, I'll believe it when I read about it on ATOT.
Her family has already exerted all of their influence and used their money as effectively as possible. She's going to jail because she's a moron. None of the facts of the case are in dispute. There was no malfeasance on the part of the police, prosecution, or judge. Money and power don't mean squat after you've been handed a sentence like this. There is no way an appeals court would overturn this conviction or the sentence. Everything was done by the book.

Ah this must be the other thread where 'speak/type in quite an authoritative manner in many threads when you have no idea what you're talking about.'

If you really think Paris Hilton is going to be treated like your regular jail-bound crackhead, prostitute, etc. inmate at the local jail you have a lot more faith in the system than me. Being jaded about how celebrities are treated in our justice system is in no way synonymous with 'not knowing what you're talking about'.

She should be able to buy her way out. Charge her $1 million per day... so she'd pay $45 million to the city or state in order to not go to jail. It's a pretty minor offense... and I'm sure the city/state could find a use for $45 million.

she won't be in gen. pop. so what does it matter anyways?

it would be a big deal if she's going to be with a bunch of murderers and rapists

I recall reading that the judge would do their best to put them in an average prison and not some resort prison that many celebrities go to when they do their time.

I love how some people are so mind-numbingly stupid that they think this has anything to do with how much money she has. Paris is hated because she's a self-centered bitch, not because her life is "better".

Ask Martha Stewart how bad prison is. She said the worst part of it was how many inmates were "fake" and fawning all over her trying to make her time there easier in hopes she'd take care of them when she got out. 60 days even in general population is hardly going to be a brutal experience for young Ms. Hilton.

I'm so glad California is spending billions on new prisons to house all of these dangerous criminals. I feel safer already.

This bites

5-8-2007 She has called the sentence unfair and asks Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her

LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton has rehired the publicist she dumped over the weekend after being sentenced to 45 days in jail.

Mintz and Hilton had parted ways over an apparent "misunderstanding she received from me regarding the terms of her probation."

Hilton told the judge Mintz informed her it was all right to drive on a suspended license for work obligations.

Mintz also testified Hilton believed she was allowed to drive.

The judge called Mintz's testimony worthless.

She has called the sentence unfair, and her fans have posted a petition on the Internet urging Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her.

"I feel that I was treated unfairly and that the sentence is both cruel and unwarranted and I don't deserve this," Hilton told photographers assembled outside her home Saturday.
=======================================================

I like her and her Internet porn tape but she sh!ts in the toilet the same as me.

Not only should she report to jail but she should certainly be put in the general jail population with a bit of extra supervision of course.

She's putting Gov. S. into a tricky political situation. He can play it either way and score points, but the fallout in the media could lead to no upside for him.

I would advise him to decline to even consider this plea for help.

I say Arny should personally escort her to prison. Saying how he sympathizes with her feelings. However, the law is the law and how even the governator cannot interfere with justice.

Everyone is assuming she'll serve the time, and not appeal it to death or simply flee the country. She's a Hilton, she could easily goto a country with no extradition treaty with the US.

Some info from the net:

Ms. Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 per cent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law.

She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

Two other traffic stops and failure to enroll in a mandated alcohol education program are what landed the socialite back in court.

On Jan. 15, Ms. Hilton was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. Officers informed her that she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging that she was not to drive, according to papers filed in Superior Court.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies stopped Ms. Hilton on Feb. 27 and charged her with violating her probation. Police said she was pulled over at about 11 p.m. after authorities saw the car speeding with its headlights off.

She needs to be in jail big time.

Wow. Now i'm questioning whether 45 days is long enough. I hope none of the people defending her were also in the threads about an immigrant with dui's and suspended licenses who kept driving and then killed someone. I guess if you're a rich celeb instead of an immigrant, it's fine for you to get a dui, a suspended license, then still keep driving and continue to get traffic violations. It doesn't matter that the person you hit will die just the same.

I think she got what she deserved...even if it was a bit less than a regular person would have gotten.

I love how she says shes getting sent to jail just because people don't like her. Guess what... we don't like you. But thats not the point. The point is getting your irresponsible drunk butt off the roads for a while.
