According to most reports, most non-violent people don't serve all their sentences in LA county because it takes a lot of money to put people in jail.. it's more cost effective to use house arrest instead. (in addition, this frees up more space for the really violent criminals)

But because most people hate Paris Hilton, she is being made to serve out her whole jail sentence... yea, so being rich and famous has caused her to be treated even more harshly by the court sytem.. not really fair...

Most "ordinary" people would've been fined up the wazoo in addition to doing some jailtime in this situation. I'm not sure they could've slapped her with a fine high enough to have an impact, which is why the additional jailtime seems like an appropriate punishment.

Ya, even if she could be fined up to say, half a million (which I'm pretty sure is a couple magnitudes above what they could fine her) that would still be the literal drop in da'bucket.

Paris Hilton has been ordered back to jail in Lynwood and will serve out her original 45 day sentence with a credit for the 5 days she's already served. Reporters say she was crying through the entire process and, when Judge Michael Sauer gave his decision, she let out a huge cry and said, "This isn't right." She was then physically dragged out of the courtroom by a female deputy, in tears, screaming, "Mom, Mom, Mom."
Some witnesses say they saw a rainbow above the courtroom. And others say they saw a giant man in the clouds with a white beard nodding his head approvingly. And me? Well I saw Judge Michael Sauer grow to be twelve feet tall, with muscles the size of tree trunks. And when he smiled, little cartoon hearts appeared above my head and there was a strange tingling sensation in my pants.
NOTE: I officially nominate Judge Michael Sauer for President of the Entire Universe.

she is going to jail, not prison. it's not going to be like Stallone in Lock Up. Sure it will suck, but JAIL isn't full of butt pounding serial killer. People go to jail for a short period of time. While I wouldn't want to go even to county Jail, but it's far from hard time.

I detect a lot of venom, I hope no one is (dare I say it) envious of someone who happens to make a lot of money without 'working hard' for it.

There are plenty of rich people who don't have any venom aimed at them. Paris is singled out because she's an attention whore who seemingly lives in her own world and possesses no working brain cells whatsoever.

Oh, and that DUI and two driving violations with a suspended license as a result of said DUI might play a bit of a role too...

No hate here. Just no sympathy for someone who was caught drinking + driving and then was caught twice for driving /w a suspended license. Not like she needed to get to work so she could feed her kids, pay the rent, etc.

The entire serve-your-sentence-at-home crap was utterly ridiculous. Glad she's heading back jail.

The argument that all signs of hate, disapproval, or schadenfreude are rooted in jealousy is the most childish and intellectually vacuous one that I've ever seen. Perhaps it is true occasionally, but it's far from a general rule. If this thread was about the sentencing of a child molestor, you'd see just as much venom. Are people (dare I say it) envious of such a person? When the whole Enron thing went down, you again saw a lot of angry words being bandied about. Would you ascribe this as well to jealousy, to the mere fact that the majority of people on the planet were lamenting their inability to lie, cheat, and steal billions of filthy dollars? I think not. Please keep your jealousy hypotheses out of this thread, barring further proof.

If my best friend had to serve 30 days for doing the exact same thing she did, then she should have to also.

I love you ignorant dolts who say "oh, it's jail, it's not prison". Why don't you try jail for a night or two, yourselves. I would bet the overwhelming majority of you kiddies and would be crying to your mommy, too. But wait, you didn't do anything to go to jail for, right? I mean, stealing that music online and all that warez...hey, everybody does that, right? Nothing like hypocrisy.

I also love the people who argue "she dissed the judge" nonsense. Hey, whatever happened to "dispassionate" justice? Look up the word "dispassionate". Quite frankly, whether a judge is pissed off or not, it should have no bearing on a sentence. Judges are supposed to keep their own emotions OUT of sentencing, period. Of course, they violate their own ethical standards when they don't, but no one seems to care about that.

This judge had all kinds of options to teach Paris a lesson I agree she needed. No celebrity should get special treatment in the eyes of the law. However, no celebrity should get "Let's teach them all a lesson" treatment, either. What's fair is fair. She could have been sentenced to do a great deal of community service of a humiliating kind. The press would have been there to document it all (unlike regular Joes, who could do their dirty community service without fear of appearing on Page Six.)

The final point that makes my argument completely comes from the Sheriff himself, who knows better than anyone involved --the judge, the press, anyone commenting, etc.-- what kinds of sentences are meted out and how they are carried out in LA County. Here are his words:

[Baca said] Friday that Hilton had been ordered to spend an unusually long time behind bars. Under his department's early- release program, Hilton would not have served any time in jail, Baca said. "The special treatment, in a sense, appears to be because of her celebrity status," he said. "She got more time in jail."

Case closed.

while i agree she recieved more then most would have. I don't feel for her.

she got a DUI. ok fine you get 6 month suspension
you drive again. she pleads ignorance (really her people didnt read it for her)
she drives again! (some reports say she got off this and got caught a 3rd time).

she is LATE to court! WTF bad idea.

she gets 45 days but can get out in 23. not a bad deal. overkill? maybe. but she did show that she does not care what the law says. she is goign to do what she wants. 23 days is a good lesson.

then her "doctor" goes to the sheriff (who has a reputation for letting "stars" out with any bs reason) and gets paris released in 3 days. yeah ok thats BULLCRAP. not to mention a slap to the face of teh judge that ORDERED no home confinment.

then the power struggle between the judge and the sheriff (wich i do nto think is over yet). then hilton is nailed with full 45 day sentance.

Not to mention the BS of being late AGAIN and the mother makeing remarks to the judge. yeah good idea.

while i don't think she should have got 45 days to begin with with the recent crap it is well deserved. she has no concept (or care) about the law.

oh and remember all of this could have been avoided IF she would have NOT drove drunk, drove on a suspended license (twice).

Doesn't matter.......her parent's lawyers will chum up to some appeals court judge, who will have her out of jail by the end of next week. I'd really hope that Paris will learn something from all of this, but I imagine the only thing she'll get out of it is a feeling that the "little people" are petty, and jealous of her.

what will she learn? that she is rich and can do whatever she wants. but you are right. odds are she will be out by the end of next week.

am i jealous of her? not really. i would like to have the money she has. but other then that who cares. I am just sick of the fact that "justice" can be baught. (though i do think 45 days was insane)

You kidding? She will be bigger news than ever, here's why:

1: She will get released and say she had a huge wake up call in prison, that she has also changed. Which leads to #2 -->

2: She will enter into a relationship with a high profile Hollywood lesbian and pose for every camera possible.

This jail time will unfortunately not make her go away, it will be nothing short of a huge publicity stunt for her!LOL

I know jail must suck but 45 days is hardly the end of your life. She gets her own room...I would get a lot of reading done

If it would have been some non-celebrity middle class person the judge would have likely slapped them with a significant fine and extended the probation period. Take away the cash equivalent to a month or two's mortgage payment is a pretty good wakeup call for the average joe. The only siginificant thing the justice system can do that is equal to that for someone like Paris Hilton is to take away their lifestyle for a period of time. The fines he could have imposed are pocket change to someone like her. So yes she is being treated somewhat differently than the average citizen in this matter and I don't think it is at all out of line.
