You know, handicapped people want to be treated just like everyone else. I think they should get tickets for parking in non-handicapped spots to make things fair.

Absolutely fight it. While I'm not one to park in handicap spots, they often don't mark them properly, and if they're not properly marked they technically are not a legal handicapped spot and you can't be ticketed for parking there.
I also get annoyed when you goto Target or something and there are like 50 handicapped spots out in front. Seriously? Have 50 handicapped people EVER shown up here all the same time? it seems a bit ridiculous.

Never seen a handicapped spot with meter. Around here they can just park anywhere, even where you cannot legally park... Though I have yet to see one park in front of a hydrant
The thing is though, I didn't pick up the car the same night because I was drunk... That may not be fun trying to explain.

I'm the kind of prick who will drop a dime on you for parking in a handicapped spot MOST of the time. If the OP had accidentally parked in a handicapped spot overnight and there was lots of other parking, then retrieved his car before parking got crowded the next morning...then let it slide, but by his own admission:

says he deserves the ticket he got...and his car SHOULD have been towed on top of the ticket.

Saterday morning = no crowd. Not trying to say what I did was right but I think it's better that I took a cab instead of attempting to drive.

Ugh. Anyone faulting him for not knowing that a blue meter is for handicapped parking is an idiot themselves. I didn't know. Heck, most people don't even live remotely near a parking meter and rarely see or use them (I had maybe used one once in my life before moving to SD). Why not just put up the international symbol with it?! You've got a freakin' POLE right there to put it on!
If in CA, as BoomerD states, a disabled person can park as long as they wish and can park at an on-street meter at no charge, then why would a blue meter even exist? You can't expect someone from another state to know that just like I didn't know the rules about chocking wheels and parking motorcycles in CA (rear tire must touch the curb).

Our handicapped spots are not metered...I'm not sure I've ever seen a blue meter before.

Why would you appeal? You did it, right? People who park in disabled spaces should die TBH.

I have no sympathy for people who park in handicap parking, especially after seeing some thugs pull into a spot while a little old lady who could barely walk had to park much further away. OP's handle serves him well.

Yes I feel bad for parking in handicapped spot. I never did it before. It was around 12 when I parked and I didn't even look at the meter because I didn't need to put money in the meter that late. When I went back to pick up my car it was the only one on the road. The thing is though, I didn't pick up the car the same night because I was drunk... That may not be fun trying to explain.

$301 fine? Blue meter? You're in Philly, aren't you? Whereabouts did you park?
Also, you could fight it I suppose... but really, it was your fault. Ignorance isn't going to get you out of the ticket methinks.

I'd fight it. Never heard of a fucking blue meter. And if it's night time when you don't even have to feed meters, who'd even think to inspect the damn thing anyway?
And it is nice to hear that you left your car there instead of driving drunk.

I see way to many people with handicap tags. It feels like maybe there isn't a lot of oversight about who gets them.

LOL, I originally read that as you thinking a lot of overweight people get them, and I was like "true, true."
