Partition Magic 5.0 $29.99 after (Cyber)rebate

A lot of software has been added at CyberRebate, including win2k update. PM is probably the best deal of all. Or is it because I think PM is great?

All upgrade for y2k does it creates boot disks for use in DOS environment. You can create the same disks using older version of PM

I'm not stoked on Cyberrebate...Took me a year to get my rebates in and I'm still haven't received one of them. Cyberrebate has proven to be a cybergip, so far.

Pyr: It doesn't according to Powerquest's web site (http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/index.html). It does a pretty good job with ext2 though.

paggio: Hey thanks for looking that up for me. I was going to take a look after I got done doing a bunch of stuff around here... I would have done it on the spot but I had totally forgotten the name of the company that makes it. It seems rather odd it doesnt do BFS since BeOS came (maybe still does on the version 5 Pro cd?) with a limited version that did handle BFS.

BeOS 5 Pro does have the limited version of PartionMagic on it. Otherwise just creat unformatted space, BeOS will format it as BFS anyway.

Is Norton's partition program any good compared to PM?

I haven't used Norton, but their products are considered to be pretty high up there. Partition magic, however, seriously f***s with your drive. It can report errors if you have linux partitions (and fix them in such a way that you'll never see linux again), and I've heard (so don't rely on this), that it messes with the boot sector too. It's one of those "wizard-point-and-click-shiny-buttons-user-friendly" packages. After trying it once, I wouldn't recommend it.

vlad: are you talking about V5? Ive used V3 and V4 of partitionmagic and theyve worked great for me so far.

PM4 was said to have a seriuos bug with ext2. Supposedly it has been fixed, there is a patch available. I haven't had any problem though. It's a tool I couldn't live without. Well, yes, I could, but my life is much easier with it.

I use Partition Magic with 9x, 2k Pro and Server, and works fine with Millineum. You may not be able to install the software, but I just use it to create and format my partitions anyway. Works great for NT and 30+ hard drives.

That's not what I heard Research. Since the DOS support was stripped down in Mellennium, I read that Partition Magic wouldn't work with it until a patch was released.

Jose Curevo, is that a working copy or a demo?? A friend of mine bought a OEM computer with a 20 GB HD & they partitioned it into 2 drives. He does not want to reformat, but he wants to make it one big drive again. Will this do the trick?? He's using win 98se.

Partition Magic sucks. It's better to partition using fdisk than this piece of garbage.
