Would there be a compelling reason to upgrade from v.7 to v.8?
I thought v.8 was just created to change from PowerQuest to Norton?
Norton/Symantec is notorious for "calling home".

Note that the $20 rebate is a "competitive upgrade" rebate. HOWEVER, it says you can send in proof of purchase (cd or 1st page of manual) of ANY symantec, norton, or powerquest product. If you are like me, you have a number of symantec anti-virus or system works that were previously free after rebate (or you probably know someone who has some older vers).

To address some of the questions previously: Version 8 was the last powerquest version, as far as I know norton just slapped thier name on the box and didn't change anything since its still labeled version 8. I doubt it has activation, if its the same version as the powerquest.

The first visible user comment on the Amazon site marks the current status of this once most-excellent program.

The order page on Amazon also states "Newest Version".
However, for some, this will be a great deal as FAR is still better than nothing.

I didn't realized they even still made PartitionMagic. I think the last time I used it was 1997, when it was basically required for doing anything with your HDD.

Yeah nowadays you can use the windows GUI thing instead of fdisk. But you still can't do some things without partitionmagic or similar. Like Resize partitions (unless its one of those funky dynamic disks) or certain conversions like NTFS to FAT32 (dunno why you would, but if you did, windows wont do it).
