Folks,

I am still cleaning up the basement and uncovering more unused computer parts. I am trying to find some BP6s for the cluster effort going on. Here are some parts I would be willing to sell/ship real cheap to help out a TA member. These were used in my RC5 days when clock cycles were king and didnt need a large cache for the likes of SETI.

Anywhere here is my latest find:

Asus P2B Dual Slot 1 CPU Board
Dual Celeron 333's
32 meg ram? ( not sure but it was enough for a diskless workstation)
3Com PCI NIC
Generic PCI video card

Shipped UPS anywhere in the lower 48 for $25. I just want to recover something for my time and shipping costs. I will accept payment from a TA member however they wish, Paypal, personal check or MO. Somebody let me know if this want this or it goes to the great recycling center in the sky!

What's the fastest CPUs that dually board will take? If it can hold slot 1 P3's I'd be interested.

Geez, NWM, doncha got enough stuff already?

Why doncha give some of us poor folk a chance, eh?

J/K,
Sweet deal!

Swanny, at 1 review site, it listed up to PIII600. Don't know about if BIOS upgrades would allow higher CPU speeds or not.

my guess is it will take a slot 1 p3 550 or lower, but I am definatly not sure about that, I do remember there being an issue with early realeases of slot 1 bords from intel mainly that wouldn't take a P3 above 550, I know because I had one. I dont know about asus.

I was just wondering. It would take quite a bit of money, but I could get that board, replace my one P3 500 rig with something else, buy another P3 500, and then use those duallies to replace my Celery 500s + BP6 and donate them to the Beowulf. This would leave me with an extra slot 1 micro ATX board, though.

How much increase in SETI performance could I expect with dual P3 500s instead of Celery 500s? My average time on the Celeries is currently 14h10m.

Thanks,
Swan

Though: If I bought another P3, would it have to be matched to the one I have right now. Or does it matter with these?

Swanny, I would guess about 12hrs a Wu for a P3 500, its still dependant on the FSB.

If nobody has nabbed it up yet, PM me! I somthing to replace my fussy BE6-II.

EDIT: What P2B-X model is it?

And if you are wondering, my BE6-II loves to reboot itself and lockup, and no its not a powersupply, I've tried 3.

A P3 500 will do mid-ARs in ~10:50hrs. Feed it VHARs and you'll get a little over 9hrs/WU. This is running 2K (and probably XP).

That mobo might be one that doesn't take Cumines, mainly due to voltage diffs. Some boards have the voltage range but you need an updated BIOS. If you can find P3 600 Katmais, then you might be good to go.

That is a sweet deal though...
