My wife and I just bought our first house this month and I have been wanting lab a few years now.So while the wife was out of town I decided to go to the animal shelterand take a look. I ended up bring home a 2.5 month female black lab.

Everything has been going extremely well, she is so sweet and playful. Last night she threw up around 10pm which I thought maybe her stomach was upset but about 20 minutes later she did it again. It continued until about 3:00am occurring about every 20-30 minutes.

Just got back form the vet, she has parvo. Her white blood count was high and they gave her about 80% chance on survival. I have to give her sub-q shots 3 times a day for the next 2 days. After that she will either start feeling better and begin drinking again or it will get worse and will need to be put down.

80% chance, at least the odds on her side.

New got a new puppy on Wednesday
She has parvo
80% of survival

Picture, sorry for quality wife has the camera

The good news is dogs have evolved to where they have a high chance of survival. 20 years ago, it was almost 100% death rate.

I hope your dog pulls thru!

Compuwiz is right. 20 years ago, I was a very young veterinary assistant, and parvo was a death sentence. Good luck to your pup! Hopefully she will pull through quickly.

I had a dog who passed because of Parvo; good thing you caught it early!

I'm not sure how things work at the shelter but from what I have heard from the two vets I spoke with today the area I live with is infested with parvo. I will be calling the shelter about this.

Our Pit Bull had the same issue, she luckily survived after a few nights at the vet. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear you dog isn't feeling well. I'm actually amazed at how far veterinary medicine has come; I also remember when it was a death sentence for dogs. Good luck! Also, if you had to pay the shelter any fees for adopting, perhaps you could get them to refund those fees.

I had a dog that had parvo about 10 or 11 years ago. He pulled through all right and is still alive and kicking. He also is a black lab. What really sucked though was that my stepmother caught it from him. I know it sounds crazy, but they say that parvo can be transmitted to humans, but very rarely. It made her extremely weak, and she still doesn't have the energy level she used to. Anyway, I hope your dog makes it. Like you said, at least the odds are in her favor.

Are you sure she didn't have something else? According to the literature, there are *no* known cases of transmission to humans. I was just reading up on parvo because I was amazed the the prognosis is so good these days. There is a human parvo virus, but it's not the same as the canine parvo virus. Perhaps it's just a coincidence if your mother was diagnosed correctly.

Both of my dogs had parvo. Both survived, but it sucked for a few days and cost a lot of money. The vet said it may have contributed to the one's small size (toy dachshund), though she was going to be tiny anyway.

Hoping for the best

My neighbors found a little dog... I got to know it a couple weeks before it got parvo.. Suddenly it went from being plump to nothing but a spine.. It died overnight

Best luck to you man..

We thought it was crazy, but according to the doctors she had parvo. I'm sure she didn't have the canine parvo, but it was definitely parvo. The doctors made it sound like the same thing that caused the dog's parvo caused it in her, but I never actually thought it was the exact same virus. I figured it was the human strain. I was also 10 or 11 years old at the time, so I could have missed something in there somewhere, but I'm certain she had parvo right after the dog was diagnosed with parvo. I guess it's possible the two weren't related, but I don't know. Anyway, I hope the OP's dog get's better.

My ex sister in law got a parvo puppy from the pound a couple years back.
It was awful. The puppy lived for a week or two blowing puke and blood and bile all over the place.
The worst part of the experience is that they immediately got attached to the puppy because what they thought was lovable was actually sick.
