The number's so small, no one even keeps track of it. If you find any numbers, please let us know. I doubt anyone keeps track of the taxes paid by 565 people as a percentage of the nation. If Donald Trump has taught us anything he's taught us that mega rich know how to avoid taxes

So we should cut their tax rates?

What % of investment income do they have overall in that group? You simply cannot say that because it's .00001% (or something) of the makeup of that group, that it's the same for their investment income. You know better.

The top 400 (0.001%) people in the country own 2.25% of the entire country's wealth.

So now the burden's on me? Nice try. I'm telling you the numbers don't add up. Show me how these tax cuts are going primarily to 565 people

I'm not talking about as a percent of the nation, I'm talking about Obamacare investment taxes and I'm talking about how much of that blue line (why I said the rest of that group) is from billionaires.

Fine. How much of the blue line is going to those 565 people and what's your source?

That's what I'm asking. You said that the vast majority isn't being paid by billionaires so I though that you would know.

The graph said nothing of the sort. The vast majority of the OC taxes are not paid by 565 people. You are dead wrong. Shame on you

Being a billionaire doesn't guarantee that you're in that group. That chart is based on income.

Obamacare raises about $100B a year. You think $50B of that is paid by 500 some odd people? You gotta be nuts.

I do know. The numbers just don't add up. There's no way 565 people are paying that much tax. It doesn't even pass the giggle test

Also, off topic but in line with your post, should we close all of the loopholes and make sure they pay their share of taxes?

OK, so how much of that blue line are you claiming is coming from billionaires?

As for the 2nd part of your post, it's loaded. It depends on what you call loopholes.

In general I do think wealthy people should be paying more. Know why? 'Cause they're not even the most heavily taxes by percentage right now. By percentage the guy in the 28-33% bracket is taxed more than anyone else and here's why. In addition to that he also paying social security tax of 12.4% until he passes $118K at which time that 12.4% drops off. So let's take the 28%. For awhile he's paying 28+12.4=42.4%. That's more than a guy who making a million 'cause he's only paying 39.6% on $882K of his one million. That's crap. Why should the middle class guy at $100K carry such a burden?

First of all 400 people constitute about 0.00012%. So OK, let's say they control 2.25% of the wealth. How are you ever going to get them to pay 50% of anything and why should they since they only own 2.25%?

I would gladly accept & pay into a single payer system, my insurance is around 22% of my gross. By the time I've paid my rent, we are eating ground turkey. LOL, yes I accept Grubhub gift cards I hate turkey lol!

And here's a gem, my new expensive health plan? They have never heard of me, the separate company that handles RX meds hasn't either & I have insurance cards...wonder if they will know me on payday when they want their premium payment?

The graph showing the vast majority of taxes coming from multi millionaires still goes against your idea that Obama taxes referred to those making 200-250k per year. Sure, they pay some of it but the vast majority come from a very small group of people. Considering that the top 400 billionaires have investments of nearly 2.5 trillion, I suspect that they also contribute the lion's share to the big blue line.

You suspect wrong and you're not grasping the numbers here. There's no way 565 people pay the majority of any tax in this country. If this was a billionaire tax it would have started much higher than $250K. You're really selling short the folks making under a million (let alone a billion) dollars. Those folks are paying plenty here.

You can pass a bill tomorrow stipulating a 3.8% tax increase on all billionaires and it won't make a particle of difference because there's so few of them.

Yes, billionaires are only some of the people who'll benefit from the proposed tax cut. They'll benefit more than anybody else in the top 2% & some among them are the ones pushing hardest to get it. Over 80% of the proposed tax cuts go to the top 0.1%, people who obviously don't need tax cuts at all. They're stupendously rich & getting richer all the time.

I think you really don't understand how income distribution works in this country. This may help-

You are a great example of how screwed up this system is. You should not have to live that way in America. I share your pain as I'm in a similar situation

I'll make you a deal. Let's cut all the OC taxes except for the ones on people who are billionaires. I'll join you there

lol @ piece of shit pedant pretending to be too dumb to get the math. That's the sort of person it takes to kick millions off healthcare so he can pocket a few dollars. Probably tells people he's "christian", too.

Even funnier are liberals who think people like that are simply uninformed.

A measure that simply will not fund healthcare subsidies for those who need them to have coverage at all.

The Repub plan will put people who make a helluva lot less than you do at the same price point as your own. It's Repub action that makes your premium what it is & they'll extend that dubious privilege to even more people if they can.

Their every move is designed to serve the investor class at the expense of the rest of us.

You have a comical habit of appealing to the moral agency of people who'd probably gas the jews all over again if there were some money in it.

To be really honest with you here, no, you don't " share my pain" Do you seriously think I would still be working if I could be allowed to buy into Medicare early? If COBRA didn't cost $2,500 a month?

I literally drag myself to my job & by the time I get home every joint in my body is screaming in pain, I am exhausted all of the time. There are no vacations, no dining out, no nothing except work & trips to the cancer center. I am glad to be alive but this road is getting pretty hard to walk & having nightmares every night at the prospect of being uninsurable is pushing me to the end of my endurance. My stress is a living nightmare

Sea Ray is the Real victim here, being forced to pay for people who wouldn't die already.

And yet if I were to wish the same sort of cancer on him and the others like him I'd get banned, as would anyone else who did so. Good grief.

Speak to your doctors about anti-anxiety meds. Please. It'll only change the way you feel but that's very important. I don't mean something that sends you to Lala land but something to take the edge off of it. Take what happiness you can get. I wish I could offer more.
