Passive low profile NB cooler?

I just got the MSI Neo Platinum 2 and the chipset cooler is loud as F00K!
I'm running it passive with the stock cooler now. No problems so far, but I don't want it to impede my overclock.
My 6800's fan is covering part of the nb cooler, so I don't think one of those tall zalman passive heatsinks would work. Any idea to cool this thing down?

Funny now that we're all focuses on noise, the NB cooler is still a whiny little ah heck. Mine was spinning at 8250 rpms before I threw a zalman on and ditched it!!

Those look pretty tall.
My video card fan is just barely touching the stock cooler, which is really low already.
Yeah those coolers definitely won't fit
The thermalright is 4cm tall, and the zalman is 3cm tall
My current cooler is about 1.5cm tall and it barely fits.
It looks like the VGA cooler in that link...

So probably something under 2cm

Yeah, I have the same problem with my MSI Neo4. I was looking at this.
It's not passive, but I have the same problem, my PCI-E slot is right over the fan. The specs say this thing is 23dB, if that's true (or even close) it might be worth it. And its only 15.7 mm high, I think the only passive solution that would fit my board is one of those RAM sinks.

That fan still spins at 6000RPM.. so I'm not too confident that it's going to be silent despite being only 23dB.. It could be 23dB, but very high pitched.

No problem

I'm not sure how well that CM heatsink would work if it's only cooled passively, but at 2cm, you're pretty limited on what you can use.
If the one Mant linked to is quiet, then I'd say go for that.

Apart from that you could always watercool it, although that would be getting kinda pricey.

yeah its tough with only 1.5cm to work with. I resorted to cutting up an old aluminum Pentium2 slot heatsink that I found in the company junk yard (originally found in a compaq computer). The heatsink does get pretty hot (just used some thermal pad to affix it) and it is passively cooled by the front 120mm fan running at 6V ~ 800rpm.

It should be said, that this is for a very hot southbridge. However, you may or may not get away with cooling a very hot northbridge... YMMV
