Looking for a reliable password manager to be used in Windows 10. Reviews are all over the place on most. Looking for some real world reviews from the best and the brightest minds on the internet, found right here on Anandtech.
I've used Roboform for over 15 years and it handles 100s of passwords in an encrypted data store. It updates every month or so, and the data folder is fully portable to all my computers. It is easy to edit and make changes, and to look up logons.
I'm using Dashlane for about 9 months now. It doesn't reliably work with FF, but great with Chrome. It lets you change passwords with it's own generated ones on the fly.
I use the portable version of Keepass 2.x with Keepass2Andriod. Keepass 2.x and the database is kept in my Dropbox (any cloud service would do) giving me access to it from anywhere, and Keepass2Android gives me access to it on my cell and tablets.
I like the fact that since it is open source standalone portable applications I have full control of it. If the publisher should close it's doors someone else, or I, could pick up development. I will never lose all my passwords because a company is not making enough money. My passwords won't get hacked because someone misconfigured a server. My passwords won't be compromised because the parent company sold out to some shady Russian organization (I'm not saying this has ever happened, but it could). Since my keepass represents just one users passwords I am not worth the effort to get my data unlike Lastpass and the like where if they crack their system they get hundreds of thousands of accounts information.
Installed Keepass 2.35 on a Windows 7 laptop. So far, so good. Now, I need to copy it over to a new laptop running Windows 10. I'm sure it's easy but I'm having difficulty. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I keep my Keepass database in Dropbox. I just install keepass, keepass2android, or whatever variant I need for a particular device and point it at the Database in dropbox.
Once you have created your Database, File>Save As> navigate to your Google Drive or One Drive folder and save it there.
I believe keepass opens the last used database by default. So once you have your keepass database, .kdbx, saved to your Google Drive/One Drive folder, open it again from that folder.
Got it. I was making it more difficult than it is. Saved the database to Google Drive. Cool little program. Definitely fills the need. Thanks to all for sharing.
