a couple of points.
Since when does the world community have our best interest at heart? We have also made it clear to countries around the world you are either with us or against us. Choose a side and choose it wisely
I think the idea of the "world community", at least insofar as the UN is the world community, is collected self interest that should ideally yield more utilitarian policy. Beyond theory, the US is PART of the world community, so it has a vested interest in relations... that's why we should care about international opinion.
The whole false dialectic irks me to no end. It's not black and white. If I disagree with certain mechanics of the administration's war on terror, am I FOR terrorism? Am I against the war on terror? ridiculous. Even as rhetoric it is obviously simplistic.
If the main problem is terrorists infiltrating this country why have we not sealed the boarders to illegal immigrants? This is a necessary first step.
How do we do this? I don't think the majority of illegal indonesians are jumping the mexican border. Instead, they overstay tourist visa's or abuse student visa's to get in. What do we do? Block tourism? Block foreign students from coming here? Sure if we want to really depress our economy and drain huge amounts of money from our colleges.
I have doubts about the effectiveness of the latest campaign against muslim males (do to the voluntary nature of the reporting), but I do think there is hope for a future program to effectively track students issued visa's.
"without being charged and without legal assistance."
This comment about the Gitmo prisoners is very biased and unrealistic.
These are clearly war criminals; if this was german generals from the WWII would we have treated them with more compassion and given them more rights?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we have trials for german commanders accused of war crimes? I think the point isn't that they're being unjustly penalized, but rather that their not being tried in any sort of court and not serving any sort of sentence. They're just being "detained" with vacuous justification.

well that's what you get when you say "don't look"
