Oops, Tillman finished a Half Ironman, not the whole tamale. Regardless, I'll give him another beer!

That is a shame. It would have been much nicer if he had come back got another NFL contract and played 5 more years as a shining example to others.

If we did not send the 135,000 solders to Iraq and instead focus all our money and man power on Afghanistan, will Pat Tillman and hundreds of others still be alive today?

Afghanistan is where Al-Qaeda and Taliban based, no Iraq. Al-Qaeda is the one that caused 911, not Iraq. Taliban harbored Al-Qaeda, not Iraq. Why is our money and military focus on Iraq and leave the people fighting the real enemy vulnerable? Why those supposed patriots in the forum still support this war in Iraq, when the real war against terror is not done and not getting the attention and resources it deserves.

I think BBD is really, really upset about this. He's in damage control mode. He's spinning. Watch the other anti-war freaks start to do the same.

Tillman will be praised by most as a true american hero, and then smeared by the left. Sad it began so fast. But every time I say my opinion of the left can't descend any lower, the left finds a way to encourage me along.

They can't stand the image of sacrifice, of honor, of courage. Of everything that Tillman represents, they hate.

God rest his soul, and soothe his families.

Amen.

What he did was most admirable. I do not believe though, as you say, that his sacrifice is any more or less important than any other serviceman who has given his life to date. Not for the the reasons that BBDoc says, but for the simple reason that just because he gave up a career in the NFL does not make him any more special or important than the men or women who left their jobs or families behind to serve this country. I suppose that he did voluntarily enlist and didn't need to do so (to his credit), and perhaps many of the reservists did not have a choice necessarily, but the ultimate sacrifice is what's important. It's tough to say that his career as a NFL safety was more of a sacrifice or more newsworthy than a man/woman who was a truck driver and had 6 children and was the sole breadwinner for their household. It's a terrible loss, as are all the others and every one should be remembered, not just the ESPN headliners.

It's a sad day becauses a serviceman has lost his life, and not because he was a sports figure.

Funny, Orsorum takes no offense to this partisan trash, or any of BBD's.

1) Not offended by someone questioning Tillman's sacrifice
2) Not offended by someone trying to twist it into a war on iraq/war on terrorism thread.

Get over yourself Orsorum. Take your left-lensed partisan trash filter-glasses out of this thread.

I hadn't read his comments at the time, I was responding to yours. Get over yourself, and take your trash out of this thread. This goes for any partisan rhetoric, not just alchemize.

I'm always surprised with the way you characterize me as a left-winger, as I'd thought I'd made it clear numerous times that I don't subscribe to many Democratic philosophies, namely progressive taxation, welfare, affirmative action, etc etc etc. But if it's easier for you to dismiss my comments by labelling me a lib or a dem, have at it.

Do you usually skip over the first 5 replies to a thread, and go find the first one you don't like to reply to?

I didn't see BBDs original post because it had been edited out by the time I saw it. The first one I saw that distinctly brought in partisan rhetoric was yours. I saw BBDs after that as well as a few others (I tend to skip quoted posts).

The military is this:

You get paid for the pleasure of being able to kill brown people without going to jail.

In return, there's a possibility you too will get killed.

If you don't want to kill people, don't join.

If you don't want to be killed, don't join.

If Pat Tillman had a noble reason for doing what he did, yet would not speak to anyone about it, then obviously he wasn't interested in being publicly lionized.

Since this IS the politics and news board, I would expect that we should be able to discuss the politics of his death as well as the news. Bali may not have exhibited sympathy, but your reactions are completely uncalled for.

If you want a sympathy post where everyone can post a little icon of a broken heart or a flower, go post in OT

What a load of crock. You take Tillerman's death in oppurtunity to smear the left. Who this day, holds the opinion the war wasn't justified and hence his death wasn't necessary. BBD said what needed to be said. It doesn't matter if you agree with it or not.

Stop flaming each other and give the man the respect he deserves. As OP rightfully pointed out, he was a man who gave up extraordinary money to fight in Iraq. I for one dont support the war in Iraq but bashing the charcters of people in Iraq from the comfort of your office is just pathetic and disgusting. I hate Bush for what he has done but would definitely distance myself from people like BaliBabyDoc and sMiLeYz who post crap like that. My two cents.
