Wanna check this out soon, but I'm guessing the servers are probably getting hammered since it just released on Steam a few hours ago.

Yeah I played for about 5 hours last night. No disconnects for me, but my friends were dropping every now and then. This weekend will be slammed most likely but after that I expect the servers to be pretty stable.

Speed runners are crazy; by the end of last night people were already in the 50's. I started right at release for a bit and by the time I was level 4 the top was level 12; granted he was being carried by a team of people rushing him. He ended up dying at 52 though haha.

I got to 18 playing the Nemesis league with my Ranger. Some of those mods are pretty crazy but make it awesome.

There were a few emergency patches last night, but other than some disconnect issues, the game is running really well. I am actually surprised how far along it has come since the beta. It still lacks a bit of polish and no damage floating numbers is super annoying, but I am enjoying it. Now that I'm done with Diablo, I will probably switch to this.

Took a look at some of the microtransactions and they aren't terribly priced. Making your weapons glow (and it is reusable on every weapon you get) is real nice. I especially like the idea of transferring item skin.

My only real complaints center around selling things to the vendor or putting them in the stash. Let me please right click for them to go in!

This is going to kill it for me. I had initially been thinking that this might be a viable alternative to the significant disappointment that I felt over Diablo 3. The fact that there is built into the structure of the game, Micro-transactions (no matter how appropriately priced or useful) sours the entire thing for me. Shame really as I was hoping for something new to play. Best to move on though.

You can completely ignore the microtransactions and the game is 100%. The only thing they add are alternate skins for helmets, additions to helmets, and alternate animations for some spells. Nothing that changes the game. It is all completely cosmetic. I guess you can buy extra stash tabs (but you already get 4, and with 4 level 35+, I haven't fully even used 2 yet).

If a game simply having microtransactions you can choose to ignore kills it for you, I'd suggest you stop playing games; they are all heading down that road.

They're just cosmetic skins; anything non-cosmetic is 100% in-game. The store provides NO IN GAME BUFFS WHATSOEVER and they've stated multiple times they will never include them.

They need something to keep the game afloat, and if pitching in $20 every once in a while to get a cool weapon skin/attack skin/pet helps, then I'll do it.

Yeah, if this ruins the game for you, that's really too bad. I mean hell, they don't even "shove it in your face"; when you first launch the game, it says "this is today's special" and then you never know the store exists afterwards.

Stop being simple-minded about it and enjoy the damned game.

I get that this game may never pursue the level of marketing ugliness that other games have with Micro-transactions. There may NEVER be one single thing that materially changes the game for pay. I get that and laud the ideals of the game creators. Sounds great.

However, the more the Micro-transactions business model shows any kind of positive profitability there will always be game developers who are less scrupulous and will attempt to undermine otherwise good games with underhanded methods. In the same way people make a stand about DRM, I hate Micro-transactions in the same degree and will not intentionally support any game that uses them.

Yes, this means I will miss out on good games. And no, I am not saying Path of Exile is a poor game for having them. And I admit that there may be no circumstance in playing Path of Exile that might cause me to regret playing it related to Micro-transactions, if I were to play it. I admit I am only hurting myself. I still stand on principal and won't intentionally get involved in another Micro-transaction game, regardless of their morals or intents.

I see that you have a strong viewpoint toward the business model, and I can respect that (even if I disagree).

To me, it's either:
F2P game with microtransactions that have no effect besides cosmetics
OR
The game would have been b2p with microtransactions
OR
The game would have been p2p with no microtransactions (or with still maybe)

I'm all for the model if it's used correctly; honestly you're making a blanket statement that I don't think applies to all F2P games. That's like saying you won't eat at restaurants at all because some are fast food.

I am making no statement what so ever except that I have seen companies use micro-transactions (in gaming and in other products) in ways that I do not find to my liking. I am making a decision for me and me alone.

Maybe because I work in marketing, I know how some companies view consumers and how they treat them that has jaded me towards marketing in general. Or maybe I am merely shooting myself in the foot for no reason. I just prefer only to support buy to play games where the outlay cost is stated prior to purchase and remains flat and unchanging. there is, in my mind, far too much opportunity for abuse otherwise.

18 in hardcore is a good evening. I wasn't able to start when the leagues opened yesterday so I fell behind. But when anarchy league opened I was in 3rd place at level 44 when I finally had to sleep. Was crazy fun to burn through 6 hours at top speed but my hands hurt like crazy.

I got to level 33 in Domination last night. Thats a little slow for around 5 hours of play, but Im building a trapper which Ive never run before.

I just don't see the microtransactions being pay 2 win in this game. This has been in development for 7 years (according to the devs) and they have relied on the community to help offset the costs while developing. They even had the open beta playable up until the very minute the game launched. Servers were down for like 20 minutes or something while they flipped the switch. Everything you did in the beta is in game still.

They release microtransactions as a way to allow players who want to help support them do that while letting those who would otherwise pirate the game play for free, with the hopes some cool weapon skin will entice them to fork over $5.

Besides, this is a Diablo clone game. Pay2Win doesn't exactly work.

you are missing out on a good Diablo Clone, I only say this as i see your comments and have yet to say anything "way out" by you The cool thing if you play this and enjoy it, you are not supporting micro transactions.. since you never used one, all you will be doing is playing a GOOD F2P game (if you liked DIablo2)

but understand.. I have the same Stance On Origin and the new XBONE.. you tell me you going to screw my on used games, DRM, etc.. find out NOBODY will buy, and then change.. sorry, you knew screwing the consumer was wrong to start, you just tried to slide it by.. trying it fook your target audience and then changing cause you cant is not winning me over. And i don't forget you tired to fook me over, you will again when the chance presents itself.. cant understand how so many are forgetting so quick..

AND way off topic.. sorry.. still think you should give it a try

You forgot to add "but I still buy all dem Steam games from Lord Gaben, despite the DRM functioning worse than what MS was trying to sell me."

You should give it a try thespyder.

You already know that but it's free so you have nothing to lose. You don't have to give any money to the company to play their game. You just download, play it and judge by yourself if it's for you or not.

You have absolutely nothing to lose if you're a gamer.

I too hate F2P games that are in reality P2Win...hate those. Tried many "free" games that forces you to buy some potions or stuff just to kill a mob.

PoE isn't that at all. You get the game, for free, install it and play.

Is it kind of Dark like Diablo 1 & 2?

Yes. It is much more Diablo 2 than Diablo 3. The main problem I had when I played the beta a good while ago was it was very unpolished. It would have been great in 2001, but in 2013, it was just not very good. They have come a long way since then. It is meant to be dark, and have that old school dungeon crawler feel. There still are some things I feel they could have greatly improved upon (the animations aren't great), but overall, it is a solid game if you go in expecting a diablo clone.

I big gripe I have is they let you use stats gained from gear to help with requirements and don't really warn you about this. My ranger had a couple pieces of gear I was using that when I changed necklaces I was nowhere near close to being able to use. (I was getting +32 int from the necklace). I, luckily, could get a +30 int node and only needed one level to drop the necklace, but it was a bit annoying having to go and possibly replan my next several levels.

I think it's shift click to move them instead of right click. Been several weeks since I've played, so I don't remember 100%, but there is a shortcut so you don't have to drag and drop.

I will try that when I get home. I sure hope that is the case.
