I had a co-worker that got diagnosed with terminal cancer. He came home after hearing the diagnosis, went out in the backyard and blew his brains out.Originally posted by: Aztech
Man, cancer sucks. My brother had a similar ordeal. Diagnosed at 38 with an aggresive kidney cancer, given a few months to live. He lasted about two years. The chemo was nasty with side effects. Makes you wonder if it's worth the small chance of extending your life or if you should just jump off a cliff or something if you're diagnosed...I hope I never have to choose.
RIP Patrick Swayze.

Don't forget his first big role in The Outsiders, or what I thought was a gutsy choice to take that fucked up part in Donnie DarkoOriginally posted by: oddyager

Yeah, the first two or three times it was funny but please knock it off with the Kurt Russell thing.
RIP Swayze. You were great in Youngblood, too.

I admire him for it. If I ever get a cancer diagnosis there is going to be a lot of discussion regarding cure rates, longevity etc. I'm not going to fatten up the coffers of the medical community with a poor chance of surviving.
My wife has a family member that is a PA. She told me an inside joke in the medical community that goes something like; Why do they screw down the tops of caskets? To keep Oncologists from administering one last dose of Chemo. I don't remember the exact quote but that's the gist of it.

What's with the hyper-sensitivity about my post? I don't see a comment anywhere in my post about chemo being worthless.Originally posted by: BeauJangles
Cancer is a nasty disease and, in all likelihood will never fully be cured because of its very nature. To say, though, that chemo is worthless is blindly ignorant. Yes, it sucks, but there are many forms of cancer that, when caught early enough, are completely treatable thanks to chemo. There are literally millions of people who can thank chemotherapy and the good and bad parts of it for their lives back.
Yes, it sucks and I don't wish it on anyone, but do you have any better solutions to treating cancer?
As for Swayze, I'm sad to see him go. It sucked that the media kept jumping the gun and proclaiming him dead. I wish they would have just left him alone.
