That's the philisophy the Ravens used, and the Colts WERE using early in the game when they were winning. The Pats run defense isn't great, and it keeps their offense on the sideline. It will be an interesting game, that's for sure.
They also have the right style of defensive scheme. Philly switched from their normal 4-3 to a 3-4 and was able to generate pressure. The Ravens were able to do the same with their 3-4 alignments. No team runs the 3-4 zone blitz better than Pitt with equal success against the pass or run without player substitutions. You will also see them using 2 DL, 4LB, and 5 DB at times. At the beginning of the season they mentioned they had an exotic new blitz package for their 3-4, AFAIK it has yet to be used in a game this season. If they have saved anything, expect it to be unveiled this week.
Historically the offensive player that has had the most opportunity against the 3-4 zone blitz has been the tight end, and NE has quality at that position. Pitt special teams coverage and pass protection has been horrible, if they cannot perform well in those areas they will be in serious trouble. Inconsistency in those areas were the reason for all 3 losses.
I agree it looks to be a good, close game, but I give the nod to NE to pull it out at home.
