You have to be an absolute mental midget to talk shit after beating a 4-7 team, especially knowing you won the game because of a defensive timeout and a phantom holding call.
was reading through this thread and had to shake my head at this post. some people just shouldn't bother posting.
having said that, the patriots have looked horrendous in the last 2 games. miraculously, they pulled off wins because:
1. both teams (Eagles & Ravens) gave up on the strategies that were allowing them to win. that is, the eagles stopped doing inside passes and the ravens stopped pressuring brady.
2. both of the opposing teams are pretty crappy, so they didn't take advantage of the lackluster new england performance as much as they should have
3. the pats, when it counted, came up clutch
4. dumb luck
the steelers and (to a slightly lesser extent) the giants are teams of a totally different caliber than the eagles/ravens. if the pats come out playing the same way in the next few weeks, they will get demolished. however, expect belichick to spend every minute of the next few weeks screaming his head off - the pats may have won, but he is NOT happy.
I will call a 14-2 record, based off of the Patriots' performance in the last two weeks.
I don't think that New England can manage the Pittsburgh team this Sunday. Last time I checked the Steelers had the #2 defense in the league, as well as a very good ground attack. Roethlisberger is a much better quarterback then both Feeley and Boller, so their attack isn't one sided. New England, on the other hand, has relied greatly on the success of their passing game, which has been supressed by the pressure strategies we have seen from the Colts, Eagles, and Ravens. Their running game is also far from ideal and the defense has dwindled lately.
24-28 Pittsburgh
I also think that the Giants will pull off an upset win in the last week. I suppose if the Patriots can secure homefield and the first round bye, their intensity will dwindle. The Giants will capitalize on this especially since they need to win to make the wild card. The only thing that I can see turning against the Giants is Eli Manning. Eli is still a bit young, so I wouldn't be surprised if Belichick decides to throw some crafty scheme at him which could throw him off. Still I think Rubin Droughns is a strong back that could pose a threat to New England's abysmal defense thereby freeing stress from Manning.
21-24 Giants
So there are my predictions, but I don't know enough about football to know how accurate they are. I also truly don't think that either the Jets of Dolphins will offer a serious threat to New England. However, given the track record of some of the better teams of recent times, I wouldn't call it an impossiblilty, but an improbability.
