Pfft, everyone tapes and looks for every advantage possible, IMHO short of snagging an opposing teams' playbook none of it helps nearly as much as watching game film. JJ stopped taping while in Dallas because he found it offered so little assistance it was not even worthwhile. Execution beats knowledge. When the Ravens were running effectively last night NE knew it was coming, but could not stop it from happening.
Starting to see some of what I mentioned earlier in the season about their defensive shortcomings. I questioned the speed of the linebacking corps, and their ability to maintain over the long season due to their age. NE had to play a lot of 4-3 last night due to the problems the are having at LB. They did sign Chad Brown recently, and I would expect him to be suited up next week and contribute down the stretch.
Next week should be a good game, next to the Colts this should be the most balanced team NE has faced when considering both sides of the ball. More physical, better run game, and greater overall defensive speed in the back 8. Pitt will of course use a 3-4 alignment, which the Beagles and Ravens were able to utilize in generating pressure and disrupting the passing game. At times you will see them use a 2-4-5. At the beginning of the season there was talk of a "new wrinkle" in their zone blitz scheme, it has not been used yet AFAIK. If they have been saving anything, it should come out in this game.
NE should be able to exploit Pitts injuries in the secondary, special teams coverage, and shaky pass protection. They did a good job protecting Ben against Cinci this week, but I will not believe they have fixed this two year problem in one game.
This will be the only game I will actively root against NE this season, and only because they are playing my beloved Steelers. If NE wins I would like to see NE run the table for the "perfect" season. I think it would be great for the NFL for any team to go undefeated, and unlike most here (it seems) I have no problems with the Pats being that team.
