1800 is nice for the money. patron silver is good though too. what would you recommend over patron though? (i'm not a big tequila drinker)
Depends on what I'm doing with it:
1800 Silver=my Patron silver, and I only use it for mixed drinks or shots for people I don't like enough to give my good stuff. Also, Hornitos Anejo is a good bottle for about $30 by me that I will get instead of 1800 silver.
My go-to tequila for a good bottle= Cazadores Anejo ($40 by me). Good for shots and just drinking. Very smooth. Other options outside of Cazadores would include: El Charro (Haven't seen it in stores by me, but tried it in California and was great), El Jimador, Tres Generaciones anejo, Corzo Reposado/Anejo, Cabo Wabo Reposado/anejo, or Casa Noble I've heard is good and would pick up instead as well. There might be others, but can't think of them off hand.
My "high end" tequila that I keep a bottle of for "special occasions"=Don Julio Anejo ($60 by me). Very smooth, very good. One of the best tequilas at this price point (+/- $20) out there IMHO.
Out of all I have tried though, the absolute best for me=Don Julio 1942. Simply beautiful. Had it once at $13/shot (bartender poured a double shot, but price was $13/shot for a normal shot), and was delicious. It's $100 bottle IIRC, but absolutely delicious.
Although, if anybody wants to buy me a bottle here is one I'd be more than happy to try:

Never had it. I haven't thoroughly explored tequila, but 1800 anejo, and Tres Generaciones anejo are both favorites of mine.
Both of those are good for the prices. Personally I'd change Tres for Cazadores for about the same $.
Patron is good stuff but it is overpriced; but make no mistake there is nothing wrong with Patron. Patron is not made in Vegas; it's made in Jalisco MX - the USA importer is incorporated in NV. Most 100% agave tequilas are fine. Sauza Hornitos is almost as good at half the price. Cazadores is also very good; I personally don't like Jimador but some do. Also spending the extra $$ for tequila makes more of a difference with reposado or anejo tequilas. Blanco/Plata not so much.
"Normal" Cuervo is not real tequila (i.e not 100% blue agave).
Cancun is NOT the home of tequila. That would be Jalisco.
Patron is way overpriced. It is "good" solely because of the branding. It is really not a good tequila for the price charged for it. I do patron in margaritas, but for shots it's a rough shot. A lot of people also don't know anything other than Patron and Cuervo, and think all tequilas are bad. One guy I am friends with didn't like tequila, but only had ever tried those two. I had him try Don Julio 1942 with me (bought his shot), and he agreed that it was great and actually said he liked tequila.
