It's difficult to find a still shot that shows it, but the car hit a metal lamp/utility pole first, and then came to rest around that tree.

You can see the pole laying down with the speed limit sign attached. If you look near the motorcycle's front tire, you can see the street lamp also.

Interesting information coming out from people who were at the scene. Apparently skid marks were very small and not consistent with emergency maneuvers. A puddle and trail of fluid to the scene is possibly steering fluid indicating a steering malfunction, which could explain the odd behavior of the fire starting at the front of the vehicle.

RIP, I liked this guy.

All I'm sure of at this point is that the number of people that have driven a CGT has gone up by a factor of twelve since the accident.

There have been a lot of all types of gatherings around where he crashed.

Why try to be a dick? Most would say only one of those would own 3 GM cars of the same type in the same color.

New stories are there was a possible steering malfunction.

I lost an outer tie rod at a dog park just pulling into a parking space.

If that tie rod broke on I95 I just came off of, I'd probably be dead.

It only had 5-6k miles on it. It wasn't a neglected part.

You can see that pic here. It's a molded concrete lamp post with a speed limit sign attached. Last crash pic thumbnail.

Better shot of the concrete pole here:

It was a super car Porsche with in excess of 600hp, it hit something and exploded.

It was clearly speed or possibly rapid acceleration related. Speed being over the speed limit. Pretty easy to tell that the car would handle appropriate 45mph driving just fine, even appropriate 55-60mph it would handle ok IMO. Either they accelerated like a rocket from a stop or slow speed, or they were doing well in excess of 45 IMO. I don't think they were doing a drive anyone here would call appropriate when they crashed. Doesn't mean they deserved death of course.

Anyone who has driven by a fire knows why nobody got near to tear off doors and pull bodies out. Driving from car fires 10-15 ft away with windows up you can still feel the heat.

A bit of a senseless death for a guy who is easy to like/respect, easy to see why it hits hard to hear of the deaths here.

Actually, that car's steering is tuned for high speeds, not low speeds. It's known for being weird to drive at lower speeds, such as 45mph.

The Carrera GT reportedly will spin the tires in any and all gears which makes it hard to control. If the driver downshifted coming around a bend and spun the tires the weight of the engine could cause the car to slide sideways into a pole then a tree.

Came to this thread to see people crying 'hoax' and playing the 'errr Paul who? lol, I dun know who he is' card.

Did not leave disappointed.

I had never heard of him. Looks like he only did car racing movies which I have no interest in.

Still, seems like he was a good dude and may have rest in peace.
