Have any of you driven a Carrera GT?
It was a Le Mans car that got homologated for road use - a decision made by the top brass in Stuttgart.
The car requires considerable skill to drive fast; it is not nearly as forgiving as many supercars or exotics.
An acquaintance of mine (Ben) in his new 2005 CGT was on a track in SoCal with his friend Cory (who was in the market for one) when a guy in a Ferrari merged from the pit lane at ~70mph when my buddy was doing ~185mph.
They didn't make it - that was a shocker to me.
You can read about how Ben's family sued Porsche for what they considered as a "dangerous car" that was released for road use here:

The end result is that if you drive a CGT fast, there is very little room for error.
The CGT, after all, comes with a ceramic clutch and the friction zone is miniscule compared to other stick-shift cars.
Long story short, even if you are an experienced driver with plenty of seat time in very fast cars or have done serious track time, treat the CGT with respect.
If they were doing 90 - 100mph on the road and something hit the car or they spun out, the margin to correct would have been next to nil; hence the tragedy.
