wonder is that guy is a special agent? could be. this will be in the news for months. now the media will ignore news on the illegal wars, the faltering conomy, obamacare, the job and housing market collapse, etc. we will only hear about domestic gun violence and celebrity deaths to distract the sheeple.

The news media is a business that relies on print sales & digital advertising to generate revenue. They are going to highlight what gets them pageclicks & banner ad impressions. Expecting anything else is like expecting McDonalds to serve healthy food as a public service just because they serve billions of people

Sad to see this, but given the reckless speed they must have been going, I'm glad it was them rather than some innocent pedestrian

WOW. No one is walking away from that.

If you saw the video of the guys who came on the wreck when it was on fire, the car was much more intact than that after the accident. Looks like it melted or was torn apart by firefighters. At close to $1/2 million per, there wasn't a lot of steel in either the body or the frame of the GT. It was mostly carbon fiber.

Tragic and avoidable. R.I.P.

The wreck took place about 3:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET), about 300 yards from the office park where the event was held. The speed limit there is 45 mph.

Pole that car hit before being stopped by a tree shows 35mph.

Tragic and avoidable by an experienced driver with that car, business partner was not. R.I.P.

I would guess second place in the Pirelli Porsche Driver's Cup Series championship in 2012 qualified him as an experienced driver.

Seems like an incredibly unlikely place to bite it, doesn't it? A 35MPH zone in an office park.

Wonder if there was some sort of mechanical failure with the car.

Or they ran something over that caused a tire to fail, that's an insane amount of damage for driving in a 35MPH zone, IDK if European cars have the EDR (event data recorder) that has become commonplace in American and Japanese cars for the last 10 years, that would yield the speed at impact, throttle position, ant braking, ect..

I had to read the article to find our who he is. Never been a big fan of the Fast movies. However, I do love me a good ironic death.

You don't seriously think they were only driving 35mph do you?

Plus, like someone else said the car was likely torn in half by the fire department in order to get the bodies out (they likely melted to the seats...).

Plus fire alone can do a ton of damage to a car.

Another thing to keep in mind, a lot of high end cars are actually built in two main sections and then bolted or otherwise connected, usually right about the firewall between the cockpit and the engine bay. The Veyron for instance is held together by a surprisingly small number of screws in this manner.

The Enzo also was similar (remember several years back when some rich former tech industry guy wrecked one and it broke in half).

Wow, I know I rip on this place for being filled with assholes a lot, but this thread proves there are also tasteless people here too. Condolences to the family, and I hope they avoid the internet if even this "tame" forum is being so crass over the fact that two people died.

No, what I meant was how fast they must have been driving on a 35MPH road to cause that level of damage..

I personally find it sad that two people died, but I find it more sad that all the people crying over the death of a celebrity doesn't give two shits about all the people dying in car crashes each and every day. I don't feel like I'm the crass one for making fun of those people's double standard.

The gas pipe is interesting. I would assume Porsche, who make some of the best-engineered cars on Earth, would not make a 200-mph hypercar that would be vulnerable to exploding during a relatively low-speed collision (by low speed in this context, I mean < 100 MPH). To the contrary, I would expect a Carrera GT to be designed to minimize the risk of fire as much as possible, and to have a robust passenger cell.
