There is proof of fraud as early as season one, episode eight, entitled Time Machines.

Rick Harrison buys a 1950s Coca-Cola machine to refurbish. Rick Dale of Rick's Restorations is enlisted to restore the machine. (You might also know Rick Dale from History's American Restoration.) The finished result is beautiful, indeed. However, there is one small problem. It is not the same machine.

In fact, it is not even the same model. The machine on the left is identified as a Vendo 39. But the restored machine on the right is a Cavalier 79. The dimensions of the two machines are not even the same.

I can deal with the partial non-reality of this reality show, which I generally enjoy. What I hate, though, (and the same is true of American Restorations) is the scripted comedy bits they have taken to inserting. These guys aren't actors, and their "impromptu banter" and practical jokes are always wooden and obviously staged. The underlying premise of the show is, to me, endlessly entertaining, and they should just focus on that.

yeah, that has really ruined Tanked for me as well. i love seeing the aquariums they make the all of the stuff in the middle is so obviously staged to the point that it just gets in the way now. maybe it's always been that way but the later episodes it seemed to be so much more obvious.

Fish Tank Kings is a better show to me for this reason alone, because it focuses more on the actual tanks, although they also have some stupid stuff in there. it's juts not nearly as much.

I don't really watch TV and on the list of "interesting professions" I feel like "fish tanks" is starting really starting to stretch.

Though you can take any job and have goofy/weird people do it and make a show out of it I suppose.

The shop would be out of business if it hadn't been for this show. Heck, even with the show, the shop is a gigantic waste of space and a pile of garbage.

I remember that shop pre show and it hasn't changed much post show. Go in there today and you will be woefully unimpressed.

I thought the entire point was the 'pawn shop' was a stage where interesting items could be discussed?

Seems more relatable than just doing a regular old show where they bring up an item on screen then talk about it.

Kind of like antique road show.. The point is to talk about historical items. The pawn shop is just the theater to discuss it in.

Art is completely subjective, just because there are a lot of people who find shows like that completely fucking trite and useless doesn't mean they're one of "those" people. It means they don't like something you do and nothing more.

Or said another way: Oh my god you actually watch that fucking trash? You must be one of "those" people that is easily entertained by wasting hours of your life staring at commercials and scripted nonsense.
