If you post the problem here, we can work this out without you losing any money.

Things you should check:

Make sure soundcard is firmly seated in the slot
Speakers are plugged into the correct jack
There are no driver conflicts in the device manager
Your sound is not muted

I'll take one guess. The sound card shows as installed but you get no sound and you can't get the mixer to load?

The sound card is plugged in and the drivers are installed, but no sound comes out.

Does the mixer start. Eg, if you go to the control panel and go to Sounds and audio devices, under the volume tab is the volume grayed out or can you raise and lower the volume?

Do you have onboard sound?

Edit: In other words onboard sound card or integrated sound card?

Why would you send someone $25 when you can call up creative and have them troubleshoot/rma it for free?

Agreed. If you have onboard sound go into your bios settings and turn it off. If that doesn't work, switch PCI slots.

If you are going from onboard sound to a new sound card, you must go to the drivers for the onboard sound in the device manage and disable them and be certain the drivers for the sound card are enabled. Usually, merely disabling the "AC97" audio driver will do it.

It is most likely NOT an IRQ conflict, as he's getting NO sound and not stuttering sounds.

I know this may sound pretty obvious, but are the speakers plugged into the right port in the back?

I would be a dick and say this is the wrong forum, but hey! there's money involved!

Which operating system do you use? Check the device manager in windows 2000 or XP to see if there are device conflicts or to see if the card is even recognized. Soundblaster cards are quite picky. Sometimes it is as easy as putting the card into another slot. If the next to last slot from the end of the mother board is available, use that one. It's been a lucky slot for me.

well are your speakers plugged in correctly? the correct satellite to the correct port?

or here's a weird problem i have with my sb live...

1) turn off computer and take off the sound card
2) wipe the connectors (the part where you plug into the mobo) with a tissue (i use fingers)
3) pulg in, turn on computer, if it doesn't work, repeat #1

well that's how i get my sb live to work sometimes. i know it's weird but it's good to have some experience from the nintendo era =)
