i don't see why there should be an issue to an accredited online store. if it's with a fellow member, i'd be cautious

i meant by sending a check to them.

i figured it would be fine, just seeing if anyone had done it before.

They won't have a problem with it but they wait to ship until the check clears. If you send a postal money order, they'll turn it around the same day - only costs a buck. I think they accept PayPal if you have a PP acount.

I just placed and order with newegg about two weeks ago and used the check/money order option. I normally use a checking card, but this was for a plasma TV (over the daily limit on the card). Anyway, the TV is on it's way via AIT, so I don't have any complaints.

It's not mentioned in their faq, but they send you a confirmation e-mail when they recieve the check. Another thing of note is, when their checks department gets your check, they take over the transaction and issue you a new sales order number when the check clears, while the original number that was generated by the site gets voided. Sometimes this voiding occurs before they e-mail you the new number. So if it happens, don't freak out when you notice the money gone from your checking account and the order disappear from your account at newegg.

It took about three weeks from the day I mailed the check to the delivery date. Of course, this is a television and I'm on the other side of the country. So results may vary for smaller and less fragile items.

I always use a ccard only. Only method by which you have simple quick recourse.
Take the time to get your ccard straight.

Any merchant will hold a personal check for a set amount of days. Usually 10 business days. That's just industry standard. I would suggest you get a postal money order instead if you want a quicker turnaround.

I appreciate all the help.

This may be a really stupid question, but what exactly is a money order and how is it different? Does it mean they'll ship my stuff when they get the money order, instead of holding onto my stuff? And what is the timetable on such an option?

a money order is like a check that you buy from a convenience store (or post office?).. anyway, let's say7 you want to pay Newegg $50.. you tell the store how much and to whom the check should be made out..

they charge you ~$1 + the amount on the money order $50 = $51. then you send it to newegg..

the difference is that you have already spent the money when you buy a MO.. with a check, there's always a chance you don't have the money in your account when they try to cash it.

I've used Paypal eCheck for all my purchases, eBay, Mwave and Geeks.com plus others.

Since Paypal offers up to $100,000 protection, its better than credit cards. Paypal settles disputes quickly and protects buyers and sellers equally

Since Hawaii ranks high in the US for identity theft, and since many online companies are starting to offer Paypal, its makes buying a breeze This maybe another choice for you.

If they want your business, let them conform to your needs, not the other way around..

Most grocery store/convenience store money orders will also be held to clear just like personal checks. (I know I do when received on FS/T or eBay sales.
. Only USPS Money Orders are true cash equivalents. But you can alwsy call and ask your reseller what forms of payment they accept on a "Same as Cash" basis.

You may be right about grocery store/convenience store money orders, but another option that should just as valid as USPS Money Orders are bank money orders.

but bank MO's/Cashier's Checks usually cost more than USPS M-Os unless you are in a Credit Union.

I believe it depends on whether you have a checking and/or savings account with the bank. I actually am allowed several free money orders per year from my bank.
