The PayPal Security Key generates a unique six-digit security code about every 30 seconds. You enter that code when you log in to your PayPal or eBay account with your regular user name and password. Then the code expires ? no one else can use it

There is a one-time non-refundable fee of $5.00 USD.* After that, there?s no monthly fee or recurring charge ? your extra layer of security is free.

Order it from paypal here

so, if a scammer has one of these and your paypal info then what?

Hmm, the demo says "Link your security key to your paypal account" does this mean that your hardware generates keys that are known to paypal?

Sorry no thanks, I'm not paying to beta test their product. They should be offering them for free if you are testing them for them.

Someone would have to physically get your token, as well as know your password. Like someone else said, this is like RSA's security tokens. Yours is matched only to you.

I'm about to start selling stuff on Ebay, I'd pay way more than $5 for this, great idea which should be 100% full proof. Would be cool if they released a version that was integrated into a USB Flash drive, so I could have 1 less thing on my key chain.

Maybe it is because it's late, but I don't get it. The fob generates a code every 30 seconds, you use it everytime to log in so I am assuming the eBay PP sites generate the same number based on some algorithm, so what if your battery dies or your fob gets lost or damaged? How long would it take for eBay PP to get you back in your accounts?

heh interesting, don't know if i will need it but i ordered it lol

damn wait htis thing sort of sucks. what if i leave it at home and i go to schol or my gf's house i won't be able to log in to ebay or paypal. also if i lose the key i might not be able to log in for a long time until i get a new security keychain!!!!!!!!!!

i think i like this idea for emails though, even though the same drawbacks apply and even more cuz you are more likely to check email/myspace/etc on the go, your SO won't be able to complain that she does not have your passwords lol cuz even if she does she can't get in without the keychain

From their FAQ:

You can still log in to your PayPal account if you lose or break your Security Key, or if you don?t have it in your possession. Before you can log in, we?ll ask you several security questions. After you answer these questions correctly, we?ll call one of the phone numbers you?ve registered to your PayPal account to verify your identity. Then you will be able to log in.

Looks like if the battery dies then u still have the slow method to be able to log in. On top of that, like RSA the clock should be synchronized before the key fob goes out to the user, so it will be logical to assume that once the clock on the key off by 30 seconds then the key will be useless, however I am willing to bet that won't happen before the battery runs out =PPP
