Its pretty much a RSA key, unless they didn't go with rsa

its from.. GlobalWare Solutions

I was going to say. big whoop it's a SecurID token.

No thanks, I already carry 2 of these for different clients.

We have one for a Bank of Montreal business account. Since Paypal is basically also a bank, this makes sense.

As for losing it, I'd leave it in a desk drawer and only access Paypal while at that location (home). Totally worth the peace of mind.

It just worked for me. I have a business account, and was not charged a fee either.

I have a business account yet I don't qualify for the free one. Is there any trick or something that needs to be done in order to quality for a free one?

Here is a wiki article on Two-factor authentication for those that want to know more about it,

For your reading pleasure:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong_authentication

Here is a guy that says "Its good, but not our savior"

http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2005/03/the_failure_of.html

I have been studying the last 2 months for my CISSP for my job and my opinion is that any added layer of protection is good, but anyone who really wants something is going to get it, as seen here:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/security...7/citibank_phish_spoofs_2factor_1.html

This key will stop a lot of simple password stealing type fraud, but not all.
For 5 bucks, it's worth it.

I had a premier account and upgraded to business account and I was able to get it free. It's cool that you can still login even if you lose it.

I and others haven't been charged... Sure you have a "business account" and not a "premier account".

PayPal offers three different accounts: Personal, Premier, and Business.

Each has different features and capabilities.

Personal accounts are for individuals. With a personal account, you can receive limited credit or debit card payments, plus all of our Core Features, detailed below.

Premier accounts are for members who have a high transaction volume, need to accept credit or debit card payments, or would like access to our Core and Premium features. Premier accounts may operate under an individual name.

Business accounts are for businesses. They include our Core Features, as well as our Premium Features, detailed below. Business accounts can operate under a company or group name.

Core Features:
Send Money
Request Money
Auctions Tools
Website Payments
Downloadable Log
Premium Features:
Includes all Core Features
Use your name or a corporate or group name
Accept unlimited credit or debit card payments
Payment Receiving Preferences
Subscriptions
Mass Payments
Multi-User Access (for Business accounts)
Advanced downloadable logs
Personal accounts limit the number of credit or debit card funded payments received per year. Credit or debit card funded payments are assessed a transaction fee. Business and Premier accounts are assessed a transaction fee, which is a small percentage of each payment received. See our fee schedule.

To view your Personal account limit, log in to your account and click the View Limits link.

I guess this makes the high fees and the percentage Paypal takes out of my cash a little less painful.

dunno what you consider "high fees and precentages" but for low volume they are a great deal. Try to find credit card processing on your own that will give you anywhere near to as good of a deal that Pay Pal does. 2.9% + .30 cents isn't bad. CC processing will probably run you 2.2% minimum and a monthly fee of anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks. If you do large amounts of transactions you can get 1.6% but for that you have to be selling mass amounts of ******.

Also with Merchant Services you generally have to have a credit line approved, that way if people charge back (want refunds) the underwriter doesn't get screwed if you took the 10g's out the bank account already and they are stuck with paying the money back themselves And if you're approved for $5,000 a month and end up selling over your limit you are screwed.

would it be nice if Paypal charged less? sure, but honestly I haven't found anywhere that's better for a small to medium amount of transactions.

I had a couple of these that were used for a clients a few years ago. They both phased out using them and never asked for them back. One battery lasted 3-4yrs and the the other is still going. After a certain amount of time (2yrs?) it changes to a card-off message on the display.

The ones I had are about the length of an average key (~2"), are about 1" wide and maybe 1/4" thick. No idea if they've shrunken the design since then and/or what size the ones here are going to be.

Thanks. I recently almost got screwed on ebay and PayPal. Someone was listing bogus auctions under my ID. My PayPal account had another e-mail and bank account listed- spooky.

I thought I had a business account but apparently I only have a Premier account...funny because they give the same features... After I upgraded it said that I'd get all the Premier features plus Special Features, but if you click the Special Features link it takes to you "Premier and Business accounts Special Features" lol. Hell, I'd already applied for Merchant rates before, so I found it pretty silly that they make you upgrade to Business by making me tell them the same things I've already told them before. Idiotic.

Oh well, saved me $5 lol.

I imagine if you sign up for this you can no longer use automated sniping programs, because the program won't be able to log you in.. is this correct? that seems like a problem.

Well, this will protect people from being able to steal your passwords... But if you're retarded and get PHISHed then you're still a fool and it's no protection.

I got mine two days ago, activated it, typed everything in perfectly, and it will not accept any keys generated by the ring, so I deactivated it and sent them a help ticket about it.

Nice, it would be nicer if it was free, like Etrade. I wish my bank would use a RSA generator also (can't believe banks aren't using it) but I've heard that bank systems being hacked is more of a problem then indivial acct passwords being stolen.

What is the difference between a Business account and a Premier account?

Does it cost anymore in fees?
