Paypal Buyer Protection Question, May have been Scammed out of $890...

Summary: Bought $1000 worth of gift cards for $890, they were buy it now and you had to pay immediately.

I was not familiar with the minutiae of paypal buyer protection until this happened and read how the seller has to have 50 feedbacks with a 98% rating for the $2,000 in protection.

Thing is, Ebay suspended the account and the paypal account before I had a chance to go back and look at the auction. The seller had an extremely high rating but it may have been a hair short of the requirements.

Basically, am I FUVKED??? If so F ebay. They should have a prompt come up automatically that informs you of purchases that aren't protected, like a 2nd prompt after BIN that comes up and informs you that you aren't protected and if you wish to proceed. Anyway have any experience in this regar?

Have you even tried to file for a PayPal refund yet?

There are steps people need to take before they start ranting and raving on forums.

Yes, I have started the paypal policy and emailed ebay but I have to wait another day or two before I start the offical process through ebay on top of the one I already started on paypal...

Ranting and raving? I don't know about you but $890 is alot of money to me, and if I am not going to get that back I need to know ASAP so I can re-do my budget to account for my losses.

Maybe I'm missing it, but what is the issue? Did you not receive the gift cards? Were they fake? Value not as advertised? What?

Chances are you're dealing with someone who has done this before and knows how to game the system.

Sorry! Paypal & Ebay can be gamed for dishonest buyers and sellers.

If you used your credit card to fund the transaction, worst case scenario is you file a chargeback with your CC company if Paypal doesn't return your money. Be prepared to lose your paypal account forever if you do that.

Yeah the issue is I didn't get the cards and as soon as I emailed the seller they said someone had accessed their account and they had already called paypal and stuff and that i should end up getting refunded...ebay also said that the account had been accessed by a 3rd party and to file a complaint one the time had elapsed about not receiving the item.

And yea I paid with paypal, 790 funded through paypal and 100 through wachovia bank transfer.

Never ever pay with Paypal and not use a credit card. I don't care what Error Code 1258 they give you about you being protected. They're such liars. Always keep a zero balance so that you have the option to use your credit card. They're pure evil in my book, but no real alternative.

If they don't take care of this then yea I will never use paypal again unless necessary and wil have to try to open up more credit cards possibly..
