Get it through your head, people. This isn't Newegg's fault AT ALL. Paypal didn't realize how much of a frenzy this promotion would cause and probably shit a brick when they found out how much people had ordered on Newegg already.

It's in the fine print that they can end the promotion at any time.

Stop your whining, and be grateful that they ran the promotion even half a day.

Ohhh look at me, I'm so grateful for their BS 10 minute sale. Maybe they should advertise it more next time. Thank you BadEgg! Call PayPal, supposedly they are not randomly canceling purchases made at BadEgg.

Paypal knew damn well what would happen, don't kid yourself. This is a repeat of exactly what happened last year. It is by design they allowed this to happen, and they don't give a crap what people think about it, very obviously.

Horrible promotion and it wasted my time. I was getting ready to place an order with Dell. Not now. Kick paypal in the nads, those bums.

The only fault I blame on Newegg is the poor notification to its customers that the deal had ended. The banner across the promo banner was pretty lame and practically un-noticeable to most people that skimmed the page.

The real blame falls on Paypal. it was their promotion. It was PP that pulled the promotion out from under the Egg, Dell and others. These retailers are major players in the online business. They don't need PP. They all should walk, no RUN, away from PP.

If it hadn't been for eBay picking-up that loser of a company, they would have been eaten alive by Yahoo and Google by now.

If I preorder, say, Super Smash Bros from Toys R Us, will I get $10 back? Or does it apply to things that ship before the offer ends?

NewEgg isn't to be blamed here....and I'm sure they'll make substantial attempts to compensate those affected by the PayPal runaround. For those of you that don't read the conditions, or get an email and try to get the deals from an email you received 17hours ago without checking to see if it's still active, that's your fault.

I ordered some goodies from them....if I get it, great! If not, the prices and rebates still make it a great deal.

I have never had a situation that NewEgg hasn't been willing to handle for me, although I had to push for it at times. They have the best customer service out of any company that I have ever had to deal with (in the PC industry or otherwise).

There was a domino effect of mass confusion with this thing.

Yes, CSR's could have been better informed, HOWEVER had the mailer/promo page clearly identified either "All Items" or "Select Items" as being eligible, then the lack of communication with CSRs for this particular issue would have been nullified.

The second thing wrong with the mailer/promo was that there were a handful of items that had promo codes like "PPALxxxxxxx" which confused the issue of eligibility all the more. Is it open to all items? All items on this page? Or just the items with "PPAL" promo codes? Where are the "PPAL" codes for the other items? etc...

The mailer was a mess. NewEgg is to blame for the very confusing mailer.

I don't know who pulled the plug on the offer (Egg or PP), but whoever did that just made the matter worse for customers. The proper party should face the blame for that as well, for underestimating the popularity of such a deal... which apparently was most of the companies that participated in the PPAL offer, as most of them have been pulled.

Still, they were well-intentioned with this offer. I hope this doesn't turn NewEgg off to such specials in the future. But they should REALLY LEARN from it.

It was Newegg that pulled the offer. PayPal alloted each retailer a set amount of cash for rebates, and it had been drained within hours so Newegg yanked the deal early to avoid further losses. This is poor lack of planning and foresight on the retailers' part, not PayPal's.

Here's proof that this is 100% a Newegg/Dell dick up.

I placed two orders and it appears that neither qualified for this promotion even though I have PDF's showing the Paypal 20% off button at the time of the order. Newegg could not confirm if I made this invisible cutoff but the posts at eggxpert.com lead me to believe that I did not make either order in time for the promotion.

Newegg customer service politely offered me nothing. I was able to cancel one order but the second is on the way. I'm not a fan of paypal.

I wouldn't call that statement 100% proof. But it does now appear that Newegg knew of the dollar limit Paypal imposed and miscalculated the impact on their sales for the day. At also appears, that the 'Egg's upper management is currently discussing the screw-up and how they will resolve it to their customers satisfaction (which is for the most part an impossible feat at this point).

Why the hell are they even doing business with Pay Pal? I mean, seriously. What a horrible decision that only brings them down.

Then I see this:

XFX 8800GT (Egg) - $289 + $20 tax + $13 shipping = $322
MSI 8800GT (Dell) - $208 + $16 tax + FREE 3-5 DAY SHIPPING = $224

This whole situation really makes me feel motivated to buy anything from the Egg anymore

I sent them a nasty-gram. It won't do any good, but I'm not buying anything from them for the foreseeable future. Incompetent buffoons.

how are you little women complaining? you should be happy they offered the deal in the first place, don't bitch that they ended it early

If you have so little self-respect that you roll over and take it when you're lied to I'll take some of the money I didn't spend and buy you a jar of vaseline. You'll be bending over and taking it your entire life if you don't grow a pair.

What part of "runs until 11/28" is too difficult for you to comprehend? If they're not bright enough to run a program competently and honestly then they shouldn't have started it in the first place. Some customers object to being lied to. Maybe someday you'll grow enough of a backbone to become one of them.

How about you read the whole thing instead of crying over small print.
4. Offer Period: Offer starts on November 26, 2007 at 12:00:01 am Pacific Time and is available for a limited time only. Offer is only available as long as the merchant?s website indicates that the 20% cash back promotion is offered, but no later than December 10, 2007 11:59:59 pm Pacific Time.
Says no later than 12/10, never said it wouldn't be pulled from the merchant's website by 12/10. So for you slow people and people who can't decide anything, too bad too sad.

How about you learn to understand that web pages can be edited? The initial e-mail NewEgg sent to 8 million people said it ran until 11/28. The NewEgg site said it ran until 11/28. Even after they cancelled the thing after three hours they had the fact that it ran until 11/28 ON THE VERY SAME PAGE. Now you're quoting something that's been changed in the interim as proof? ROFL!!! You belong on the NewEgg forum, that level of cluelessness should get you a badge over there.

NewEgg heavily promoted the program as running to 11/28. THAT was the only limitation put on it until 24 hours AFTER they cancelled it.

well, at least newegg is trying. That's at least consistent with their reputation for customer service. I can't remember the last time I heard of paypal trying to make up something to their customers.

I think the only reasonable solution is for newegg to cancel every order that was paid with paypal yesterday. Otherwise they are as responsible as paypal.

I placed an order yesterday for a $310 LCD monitor. With a $40 rebate and $50 off, the total was 219.99 with free shipping. However, after reading this thread today, I became worried that my order didn't make the cut off to recieve the discount. So I used the livechat feature on newegg and was told that my order (which was placed at 12PM PST) did NOT make the cut off. I was also told to take up any disputes with PayPal. So I called PayPal and was told that the cutoff time to recieve the discount was 4:26PM PST and that my order was well within the limit. The rep on the phone said that my account would be credited the refund on January 8th (I think that was the date anyway). I asked for an email with all of this in writing, mainly so I won't forget about it.

I explained this more in detail in my thread, but I figured I'd post about it here also.

BadEgg is turning rotten. I'm not buying a damn thing there.

Bah. I finally cancelled my Dell order because I was not willing to "bet" on getting the PayPal. Not the best way to run a promotion, IMO.

My big issiue is this line:

Offer is only available as long as the merchant?s website indicates that the 20% cash back promotion is offered

The ad appeared on the webpage way past the point of cancellation. Newegg violated the Paypal TOS on the offer.

I don't even bother to look at their site anymore because I either expect to pay a premium (just to get it quicker? lol) or have to deal with a MIR (which turns into a complicated process).
