Most folks here probably aren't dumb enough to fall for this crap, but I just received an Email to an account that's not even linked to PayPal, with the following text:

Subject: Your PayPal account is Limited.

PayPal is currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and placed on Limited Access status. Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Basically, it expects you to enter your account ID, password, bank account #, and credit card number (including the expiration date) into this Email form. I think not...

I wish I knew where the info goes when you click the "Log In" button, but I can't quite figure that out. All the logos are pulled right off of PayPal's website, and the unsubscribe link goes to "removeme.providian.com".

FYI...

This sucks. I was reading something earlier that showed that people would change the info on a "Money Received" email to fool the person to think they got paid. I always check my account to see if its there, but not everyone does. This is getting rediculous.

Me too. I never trust money received e-mail. I always go into my account for verification.

Same here... if paypal/ebay/whoever sends you any kind of notifying info, exit email, open a new browser and go to site directly.... just to be safe that is.

IMO Paypal service is always going to be questionable because they ARE NOT A BANK, and thusly are not insured like one, yet they seem to function very similar.

I hate to be the jerk that says this, because I appreciate the heads-up... but this is not a hot deal. Will people ever learn that we have a forum called "Off Topic" for a reason?

Oddly, I received the same email tonight...
It instantly screamed out *SCAM*

but.... everything seemed okay....
I'm not the saviest person when it comes to tracing where things came from, but everything seemed okay to me...

This is the only thing that didn't look right to me from the message source:
Return-Path: <8tnq0p578t@aropec.com>

edit: okay, I looked at the message source a little more closely...

I received the email also 3 times today, but they were scamming Ebay instead of Paypal. The link that they supplied points to a dead link.

Hi,

Please be advised that there are many scam emails going around that appear to come from PayPal and/or eBay.

Please do not respond/click on links in these emails if:

a) they ask for banking/credit card information
b) social security number
c) password

You can always check on the status of your account simply by logging in at www.paypal.com only.
