I freaked out when i logged in earlier today when i got back from classes and saw my total balance as $0.00 USD.

Turns out because newegg refunded me $20, Paypal put my entire $172 balance on hold for no fucking reason. Now I'm $172 short until Thursday the 23rd, which means all the Christmas presents i'm giving out are gonna be at least 4 days late.

Thanks so much PayPal...

I never keep any money in my account for that very reason.

Look at the bright side, you're Christmas shopping will probably be cheaper.

Where the hell are the HQ? The executives and decision makers of that company should all be beaten to death with rusty crowbars, preferably with a lengthy disembowelment process first. Perhaps start with ripping off body parts and forcing them to eat them first.

Yep paypal is just a holding place. Money does not sit there long before I send it as a money owed payment to another account that is actually tied to my checking account. Now if paypal starts going after people I send money too, I have a problem. I have read too many horror stories about paypal and then taking money from credit cards and bank accounts at will so I use a 3 layer approach. My main account is linked to an expired credit card so if they try to take money they would not be successful. I almost feel guilty every time I shuffle money around but I am not getting hosed by paypal again.

Paypal was created by a libertarian, of course it's a piece of shit service.

2canSam your approach seems like a smart one, keeping your account tied to an expired credit card. With all the fancy footwork that Paypal and the banks do these days you really have to juggle things so that you don't get hosed. I'm glad that it's working for you.

The money had been there for 3 days, I bought my HD6850 and was waiting to sell my HD5670(which i did yesterday). Today was the day to spend the money, to my surprise, it wasn't there...

Unbelievable...

Thanks, a lot of extra work for MY money but paypal screwed me over last year. I had sold some stuff on ebay, needed to pay for a car repair and logged in to start a transfer and low and behold all my account funds were on hold. The reason - I hadn't used my paypal debit card in 6 months. So paypal locked my money because I was not using their device to spend it. That was an interesting 3 days of run around with paypal "customer service" to get resolved. I never did an actual explanation as to what really happened.

I don't get it, that can't be all your money.

I have my paypal linked to an empty savings account. Only transfer funds to it if I'm about to buy something and when I sell something it gets transferred to my checking quickly.

I keep my PP linked to a checking account. Nothing else is linked to that checking account - the only usage is to transfer by cash or check to another account.

I don't get why people still use paypal. The fuck you over for no reason. Almost everyone I know has a "paypal fucked me over" story. They stole $300 from me and I haven't used them since (almost 10 years ago).

It's amazing that after 10 years they still do the same bullshit, and people still put up with it.

I think it's because some sites (cough, feebay) pretty much force you to, or you just have to use a different site, which might be impractical.

I hate those bastards, for the reasons listed above and more. I think enough people hate them badly enough that we could probably get a band of people together to maybe get some belt sanders and rock hammers and slowly grind the bastards that run Paypal into a meaty, bone-chunky soup.

Convenience of a fast payment. Until CC companies allow personal to personal CC charges, places like paypal will flourish.
