Paypal goes on and on about buyer protection, security, blah blah blah.

In its most basic sense, wouldn't that mean protecting you from getting fucked on eBay? Besides the fees etc. levied by Paypal of course. I think of it as paying protection money to the mob. They may screw you, but protect you from some other thug.

For instance:

1. Win item on ebay.
2. Pay using paypal
3. Never receive item - in fact, ebay pulls the listing.
4. File a claim with paypal.
5. Win claim with paypal.
6. Refund of: $0.00. Sorry, we were unable to recover funds from the other party.

WTF?? I don't care what you were or weren't able to do. I used your service to "buy safely." Give me my refund.

Ever since they got bought out by Ebay, Paypal has been a heaping pile of crap. Sadly, I can't recommend any "good" alternative, because I don't know of any. Hope it wasn't a big ticket item .....

They got me for over $300 a few years ago. This isn't anything new.

Well, it may not bankrupt you, but that loss must really hurt....
I dunno what options you have, if any, to get your money back, but I'd start by trying to contact ebay/paypal ...

I would say money order, but ebay banned those now, so I try to stick to FS/FT forums

Actually I got screwed over by a seller. He took my $322.41 and never sent me the 24" display monitor and kept making excuses. I finally contacted Paypal who reimbursed the 200. They're still trying to get the money from the seller.

Anyone have an idea of how to use your CC as the primary account in your paypal profile? I have my bank account set up as my primary account so I can't do chargebacks as the money is deducted from the bank. I tried removing the bank account but somehow it wouldn't let me.

Ebay says that paypal gives buyers $2000 in protection. Doesn't that mean that paypal is supposed to pay you back up to $2000?

It's not that it's insecure, so much as paypal is just a bunch of money grabbing thieves.

If the item was covered by PayPal's buyer protection policy, you would be covered.

Scrutinize the listing more carefully next time.

To be sent to a secure 3rd party escrow for a transaction of great magnitude?

You should be able to add a CC and then make it your primary funding source. It wouldn't surprise me to see them not allow this anymore (they've been changing a bunch of things lately) as it was obviously the only way to actually keep from getting screwed (do a chargeback via your CC, then Paypal is the one stuck holding the bag).

So, Paypal is actually going to start covering people, up to $200? I think they're also freezing balances for recent transactions so that the seller can't just pull the funds immediately, so that'll help them when recovering funds (but obviously makes it so sellers can get screwed easily).

ha smartass! seriously though, i hope you get it resolved.

not sure how to make CC primary, some transactions pop up with checking as the only option, some as CC.
