PC Audio to a Receiver ?

I wondered if I could get audio to work from my optical out on my sound to a receiver. Or if I would have to get a Audio Amplifier to make it work.

I have a old receiver and small 5.1 speaker set that I am not using, though it would be better than the Logitic speakers I have.

This, you will not need an amplifier. Just make sure to go into your sound settings and enable SPDIF (optical) as your default device.

I run optical out from my computer to my receiver and it works fine. You just have to be aware that you will only get stereo sound over optical unless you have a DDL/DTS Connect sound card or are watching a source that's already Dolby encoded.

Thanks all I had two older receivers that lost there HDMI ports during a lightning strike.
Turns out that I can't get the Optical to work either.
I will just have to wait till I have the cash to buy another receiver.
I have two extra speakers and I just figured I would use them. They should sound better than my $20 Logitech speakers.

do they make optical to rca converters? im on my winmo phone so its faster to just ask forum people.

Why would you need such a thing? Just use the speaker outputs with 3.5mm to rca cable.
