PC boots to black screen

As of last night my pc was running fine. This morning I go to turn it on and it appears to boot up just fine. All the fans come on, beeps and it runs like it normally would. The issue is that my monitor light goes green for a few seconds; then I get the no signal message and the light turns to amber. I have reseated the video card (4870) in its original slot; tried it in the 2nd PCI slot. Also tried the same with a backup 8800GT card as well. But still the black screen.

Could this be a motherboard issue? I ask because I can say that over the past year I have gotten the "message of no hard drive detected when booting up" To solve this I simply plugged the hard drive into another sata port which has solved the issue both times. So I was thinking that the sata ports simply went bad since plugging into another solved that problem. So is it possible now the MOBO has gone bad or just the PCI slots since it does appear to boot up still and all fans run, etc.?

Power supply and motherboard would be the first thing I would suspect.

I am guessing the power supply is fine since all of the fans run, drives open, etc.? It is 1000W. Thanks so much for the reply.

Do you overclock? You could try resetting the BIOS. Also try totally removing power from the computer for 30 sec.

I have seen that sata drive not detected before, and it had to do with my overclock. happens as soon as i set my fsb to a certain speed.

CMOS reset is a good start, and if you get any beep codes on boot up, find out what they mean for your mobo.

Tried clearing cmos 3 times and the pc does turn on along with all fans. When trying both video cards the fans on them do turn on also; just no picture at all on either monitor I tried. It actually does appear that it is not booting; I only get the beep just as it turns on but no beep or codes or anything at all after the initial beep of powering on; all the fans and lights simply continue to run.

Still sound like the motherboard? I have a new one on order. Current mobo is the Asus P5K Deluxe which I have hated anyhow due to the cold boot issue, the sata ports going, etc. I have a Q6600 GO stepping only overclocked to 3.0 GHz with a Thermalright ultra 120 air cooler.

Also removed all 4 sticks of RAM and it still turns on but no beeps.

If it's not beeping to tell you there's a ram issue (since there's none there) then yes, it would be the motherboard giving you the issues.

Yeah - just the normal quick beep at startup and no error beeps for the ram or no video card detected. CPU heats up fine and the paperclip test works on the PSU. Got a new MOBO coming tomorrow. Now I just have to hope I do not have to reinstall Vista 64 as I have heard some folks have not had to whereas others did due to instability.

Well new Gigabyte MOBO runs like a charm and LUCKILY no need to reinstall windows. Just let Vista 64 update the drivers and runs just like before.
