Yesterday, I put a game cd in my pc and before the game loaded it froze up. I hit cntr alt delete and couldnt exit out. So i rebooted my pc, and then it did a boot loop. After that, it went to a black screen that listed safe mode options and an option to go to the last best configuration or something like that. Well, none of them would work at all. it wont go into safe mode or reboot back to normal mode. I wanted to reinstall windows with my winxp cd, and here is my main question.

On my system, I need a floppy that had a "Via" driver on it so I can install win xp pro on my seagate SATA HD. Well I left that floppy at a friend's house when we installed this new hard drive 2 months ago, and he is away. Now I cant rememebr what the Via driver was exactly. I checked VIA.com but have no clue what im looking for or what to do. Windows will not install at all without that via driver on a floppy. It keeps saying it doesnt detect the HD.

Would anyone know what the exact via driver is that I would need? I have an Asus K8v deluxe motherboard, and its something to do with that board that needs the via file. Here is my system specs:

Asus K8V Deluxe (not SE Deluxe)
3400+ amd 64
geforce 6800 gt (256)
seagate barracuda 160 gb SATA

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can't think of why you'd need a Via driver for your harddrive unless it is a raid controller on the motherboard.

Search shows that motherboard using the VIA K8T800 / VT8237 chipset.

Via.com is the wrong site, http://www.viaarena.com is their driver site.

Edit: Raid driver for your chipset
http://www.viaarena.com/defaul...atID=1180&SubCatID=143

Has instructions to make the driver floppy above the download:
To create the driver disk for Windows installation, you need to copy the contents of the folder named DriverDisk in the zip file, but not the folder itself - just the contents.

VT8237 Integrated Serial ATA RAID controller ( VT8237 VT8237 )

Looks to be that one based on what your chipset is apparently.

Also have you tried booting to the last known good option?

I'm pretty sure you can load it from a CD and not just a floppy during installation. If not you can always go buy a USB floppy drive and take it back after you finish.

Sorry, I overlooked the part where you download, one download takes care of all those files. My friend was going to put it on a floppy for me and mail it, but the file was too big for a floppy. I am lost now, the via file that i had to use before was on a floppy and was the only way windows could be installed, but this one wont fit.

Also have you tried booting to the last known good option?

Yes I have tryed that and it reboots back to that same black screen that gives those boot options i.e. Safe mode, last known, etc. I am wondering why this even happend. The hard drive is brand new only 2 months old, and had no problems. Perhaps a virus hit me? I am ready to just get another pc now, I dont know what to do

I'm pretty sure you can load it from a CD and not just a floppy during installation. If not you can always go buy a USB floppy drive and take it back after you finish.

Thats a good thought, but this old little HP is so small I have toi take everything out to get to the floppy drive, and if I disconnect the old floppy i am afraid i will mess something up, and its all i have to acess the internet Thanks for the help though.
