PC Desk recommendation

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my 2 crappy $50 plastic tables with a real sturdy desk. Based on what I've read, the Ikea Galant is very popular amongs us geeks but my local Ikea carries a minimum variety of Galant and to get what I want will cost me a small fortune in shipping.

Do you all know another manufacturer (online or physical) that produces something like the Galant setup below? I live in the Atlanta area.

"Sorry, this product is not for sale on our website, check if it is available in your local store. Stock availability may not be accurate on IKEA Food items"

The sad thing is that the styles I want are never available at my local Ikea.

I can assure you that a custom desk built like the Galant will cost you more than $315 unless you do the work yourself. I'd pay the shipping fee if that's what you like.

I really wish I could pay a small fortune. Unfortunately I'm unable to buy it online because Ikea only sells the Galant desks at the store. It just happens that my nearest Ikea store never has them in stock.

According to Burpo it's only $99 for shipping. That's 1/2 the cost of the desk. I guess I'm not understanding how you're looking at a $200 desk but pushing it to $300 makes everything infeasible and you want to buy a custom-built desk patterned after the Galant? Doesn't really make sense to me. Can you help me understand this?

Yes I see the $99 shipping offer but only a few Galant models are sold online. The models I'm looking for are only sold in stores (which are not in stock). When I check the stock prognosis it tells me that Ikea plants to stop selling Galant soon.

I'm having similar problems trying to put together a Galant desk that can actually be purchased. Evidently the Galant line is being discontinued:

The replacement line is called Bekant and should start showing up in the US in October. The listing of what's available at the Ikea UK site is underwhelming so far as it lacks any of the extensions that made Galant so configurable:

Maybe build something out of the table tops and legs at the Ikea store - they have a largish butcherblock desktop for example, or a stainless steel covered top.
