PC does not power on

Hi all,

I have a PC that will not power on. When I hit the power button, the on light and the HD light come on for a split second and then shut off and the PC never comes on. This should be a power supply issue. Anyone see an issue like this were it was not the power supply? Thanks.

Is this new built computer?

What powersupply?

Pent 4 or AMD, reason is that that some Pent 4 motherobards requires the additional power plug to be inserted. I had Gigabyte board that would power up and then shut down. I rechecked all the wiring, it was correct. Then I notice an additional power connector on the board, doh!. I plug it in from the powersupply, booted up fine.

No its a 2 year old machine. It was working fine. The CMOS battery was dying out and every time I booted it lately I would have to reset the CMOS. But now it's dead, it does not power on. It's an AMD 1.2 home built box.

You're going to need spare parts to test things. Easiest is the powersupply.

You did change the battery right?

Try removing the powersupply connectors from hard drive, CD-rom, etc. Just keep the bare minimum. Reseed your RAM, CPU, and video card.

The only time it wasn't a powersupply issue, it could be mobo or CPU.

Did somebody switch your power supply from 110 to 220? This will cause the behavior you are seeing.

Another thing that causes this is when you try to boot a computer when the Clear CMOS jumpter has been left in the "Clear" position. I suppose having a dead battery could have the same effect.

okay so I replaced the battery and when I power on the PC the fan on the CPU spins for like 2 seconds and nothing...I think it is the PS!
