Hello,

I have recently build a pc and did all the necessary things. I started gaming on it after the finishing building it (5 days ago) but since 2 days ago I cannot play normally anymore. when I startup a game for example overwatch it freezes for 1 sec when I use my keyboard and when I found a game and use the keyboard during the game it freezes the whole game. I can do alt+tab and look at the other programs etc but I cannot go to them. And I noticed that when I started a game I cannot type at al, I started up overwatch and when I switched back to google chrome after I saw the main menu of overwatch, I tried to type in the url but it didnt work. It froze the browser and couldnt do anything anymore after that. this problem started 2 days ago and happened like 3 times that day. I could *fix* it by rebooting and trying it again. It increased over time and now it happens all the time.

I hope you guys can help me

PS here is the link to my previous thread about a solved problem, you can see my specs there

Your system specs from other thread:

NZXT Kraken X61
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
Intel Core i7-6700K - Boxed
Corsair Vengeance LPX - DDR4-3000- 32 GB
Corsair RMx - 750W
NZXT H440 New Edition
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 - Gaming X - 8GB GDDR5X
Samsung SSD 1TB

Did you connect all the different power cables (2 x 4 pin CPU, 24 pin main, and video card)?

What size RAM modules are you using ( 4 x 8GB or 2 x 16GB)? Do you have the XMP profile enabled? Is that RAM on Asus's QVL or recommended by Corsair to work with your motherboard?

Did you install motherboard chipset drivers?

I connected all the cables (my cpu, 24 main, gpu, fans)

2x 16gb ddr4
what is a XMP profile ?
I just bought the RAM and the motherboard, so I do not understand what you mean.

I think I did but I am not sure if I did all of them. I went to the manufacturing site of my motherboard and downloaded everything from there.

I connected everything correctly.

my RAM is DDR4 32GB so 2x 16GB

I just bought the parts and installed them, dont understand what you try to ask.

I think so. I went to the manufacturing site and downloaded everything from there. I also went

First thing to do when troubleshooting issues, is to read through your manual to make sure you didn't miss something important:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/HelpDesk_Manual/

Pages 1-9 and 2-21 talks about the memory speed. Skylake only officially supports the JEDEC standard (DDR4 2133 RAM). Anything that runs faster than that is done through XMP (Intel Extreme Memory Profile). That's why on Asus's specification page under memory, anything other than DDR4 2133 has an "(O.C.)" after it for over-clocked:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/gaming/extreme-memory-profile-xmp.html

One thing I noticed on pages 1-9 through 1-12, they don't list any 16 GB modules on their QVL. What is the exact model number of the RAM you purchased? Because I also checked Corsair's memory finder, and I only saw two 16 GB DDR4 modules certified by them to work with your particular motherboard, and both were DDR4 2666. I didn't see any 16GB DDR4 3000 modules.

http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/memory-finder

Do you have both of your modules in slots A2/B2 (pages 1-8 and 1-12)? If you already do, your first step should be to remove one of the RAM modules, leaving only one installed, and try running it at DDR4 2133 speed and see if that fixes your issues. Incompatible RAM can cause all sorts of odd, random issues. Make sure to leave the one stick in slot A2 (page 1-12).

EDIT

Well that's pretty annoying, Corsair. Apparently they have a different memory finder site, and it gives completely different returns when putting in your motherboard. So it does seem like they do have have a couple of DDR4 3000 16GB modules that are certified to work with your motherboard:

my ram model is CMK32GX4M2B3000C15 and I have them in slots a2 and b2. ''and try running it at DDR4 2133 speed and see if that fixes your issues'' Do I have to change something in the settings for it? or does it go automatically to a 2133 speed? Also what I got from the xmp profile is that you need to overclock your ram before you can use it. If I understood it correctly is how can I overclock it.

BTW I thank you really a lot for all the work that you have done for me so far. it really makes me happy that there are people around who spend so much time to help people.

No problem.

That RAM is certified to work with your board, so that's ok. When you go into your BIOS, what does it say your memory speed is running at (page 2-17)? And from your other thread you were having some fan issues, so what does it say your CPU temp is?

What BIOS version are you running (most current one is 2003 from Sep 29, 2016)?

What I think you meant with memory speed is Memory Frequency and it is 2133 mHz, my cpu temp is 24 degrees celsius

Which USB ports are you using for the keyboard? The 2.0 ports up by the PS/2 port would be my recommendation.

I changed it to the ports as you said. It didn't fix my problem. Should I change it back or is it better to keep it this way.

In that case it probably doesn't matter. All the standard USB port on the back of your computer (the Asmedia ones are A- and B-specific iirc).

Another thing to try it going into your BIOS and setting your RAM to one speed lower than you have it now and see if it makes a difference.

I was going to set my ram speed one tick lower but I saw I could make it go higher to 3000 mhz so I did. I went to a quick game and it worked. Tomorrow I will try out different games to be sure that it works. Only thing I am bothered about that if my changes will affect anything.

Well duh... Your RAM is rated at 3000 MHz. That's the setting it should have been at from the get go.

Question:

Why so much RAM and a 750 watt monster? You could get by with a 500-550.

Is it normal that a 3000MHz rated module does not work at a lower speed and here at 2133, the rated freq for the Board ?

Not at all. Now, the modules or the user may have timings that are set too tight for that lower setting, but all else being equal, a lower speed would not have a negative impact on stability.

As you know, I am a noob at pc building. I bought the 750 watt for when I add something later to the build. And the RAM just to make it really fast. I dreamed about a really good gaming pc for 3 years now and since I made the money for one I bought the best things I could think of.
