Naw. Bioshock was to me, boring, claustrophobic (personal taste here), unclever.

I bought it and never finished it. I was not impressed with the Ayn Rand philosophical elements in the story, it was sort of basic... Ayn Rand's books made me think in new ways... Bioshock did not. All Bioshock did to me was extract some basic principles from objectivist philosophy and build a game story around those elements...

Crysis on the other hand, HAS impressed me a fair bit. It has given me that coveted "wowww" factor where I feel immersed in the game, thrust into a new world where I am wandering about in awe, and am affected emotionally by what occurs.

I know a game is good when it hits me so hard I dream about it, or feel exhausted after a tough battle.

Crysis is VERY immersive, the better FOV (vs Demo) that comes with the full version is greatly appreciated too.

It is a VERY tough question for me. This year I believe that I've experienced two equally superb games, they're both very ... how can I say, perhaps powerful, in their respective ways.

They are:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Crysis

Stalker amazed me the same way Crysis did or, the other way around, Crysis had amazed me the same way Stalker did. To this day I still play Stalker, in fact I resumed my game in progress after I finished the Crysis' single-player just yesterday. However, Stalker, in my humble opinion, is the kind of game that I would get bored of WITHOUT the community's modifications to enhance it. Right now I play Stalker with two mods, and I've been playing the game with mods since about the very first ones came into fruition. I don't think I would enjoy Stalker's vanilla features much anymore. It's an "out of the box" product that lacks quite a lot of things that should have been there as promised by the developers a long time ago ... in a galaxy far far away. But with a proper mod (let's name one, just take "ABC Inferno" for example) it suddenly turns into the best FPS game-play I've seen so far.

And then I have Crysis in my list. The Demo impressed me by its graphics, but not much by its game-play, since the first level isn't filled with "things to do". It's just a big landscape, a beautiful one of course, but doesn't have much to offer. However I refrained from judging the game based on the Demo, since I knew that there had something else beyond the Demo's ending, and the ending of the Demo literally made me think that it had to be great after that part. Now, with the final product, and having finished it, I can safely say that it does get MUCH, and I do mean dramatically much better after the first level. The more you progress in the game, and the better it gets, quite simply said. The visuals, the sounds and the game-play are all present and necessary elements, at least to me. The game has its flaws, like Stalker does, and like ANY and ALL games do, Crysis ain't perfect, but it's a game that stands, like Stalker, above the vast majority that have been released so far this year.

So my vote has to go for both of those games, I can't just pick one of 'em.

I'm voting for UT3 based on the quality of its online multiplayer game play. People will still play UT3 online years from now long after those other games (with the possible exception of TF2) are long forgotten. Heck, lots of folks still play the original UT99 online and there are still organized leagues for it.

I guess most people play shooters exclusively. You're missing out on some of the best games when you do that.

Dont even bother with that argument. They dont care.

EDIT:
As for me, I too enjoy other things. Would have to vote for the Dark Avatar Expansion. Or if it has to be a full game, Company of Heroes.

If its just pure fun factor, Test Drive Unlimited gets my vote. Simple, yet addictive gameplay. Easy to learn yet difficult to master. These are the hallmarks of great games. The open play and wide selection of cars is an excellent argument as well.

CoD4 is great, but the single player was too short and the multiplayer maps are too small. It's great, though. Maybe part of it is that it doesn't run extremely well on my rig (need a new GPU). Crysis is fun too, but again, I need a new GPU to fully appreciate it.

Muchos addicting. I haven't even started the Crusades campaign cause I get hooked when I play Total War games. Oh, and I get a bit too angry... ~Control Problems. Not sure if it's GoTY though.

That's all that matters. Every campaign is engrossing, interesting, and the gameplay just sucks you into all nighters. I know medieval 2 has been highly rated but when it comes time to hand out praise, the total war series generally is ignored. On the other hand, games like supreme commander get massively overrated for no good reason.

Stalker number 1 followed closely by Crysis for me, I still found myself playing Crysis like I do Stalker....in crouch mode sneaking into places trying not to be seen/found. However I think that when UT3 launches it'll have everything whipped, judging by the demo its still the Unreal Tournament carnage we love but with a whole lot of cool new features, UT3 like UT2k3/4 will never get old.

I'm currently downloading Crysis from EA's horribly slow online store so I'll hold my final opinion, but Bioshock is definitely the best game I've played so far this year.

Let it stay that way because I don't care.

I cheer for the Total War Franchise as well. Both Medieval 2 and Kingdoms. And the expansion that added hours if not days of game play with countless weeks of replay value.

I'm not overly impressed with Crysis, but I think it's because I got the game the same time I caught this miserable cold virus. So nothing has been enjoyable for me for the past 2 days.

Hellgate London? By the time the year is out, the patches should have more than fixed most of the "issues"

Oh wait it's because of it's DX10 graphics that run at 10fps.

Yeah, well someone here picked UT3, so it just goes to show there is no accounting for taste.

Orange box. Portal was unique and fun, HL: episode 2 was much better than I expected (best in the series) and TF2 is basically crack on the PC for me.

I can't see the poll...

I say Orange Box, if it's counted as one game. The contents of it are amazing. Crysis is godly, Bioshock was as well, CoD4 is shit (although I think I'm the only one that thinks that...) and Stalker was mediocre.

So far... Crysis for Single Player/COD4 and Orange Box for multiplayer (haven't played Unreal yet though).

You mean like the Gamespot review where they say it revolutionizes the genre in every way but then don't provide even a single shred of evidence to support that outrageous claim?

Wuwu.
