I was wondering if anyone would tell me how my build is overall. With taxes back I decided to build a new pc, here is what I have.

Cpu: Intel I5-4690k 3.5ghz
Cpu cooler: Hyper evo 212 plus
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Gpu: Asus Gtx 970 Strix video card
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 300R Windowed ATX Mid Tower Case
Psu:SeaSonic 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
O.s. Windows 8.1 Oem
Wifi card: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

So I have a few questions

1. Is the Psu good enough to run it all?
2. Is the r9 290x better than the gtx 970 (I keep hearing mixed things)
3. Is it a decent build for the price?

I always do overkill on the PSU no matter what. This way no matter what comes your way you will always have room to exchange for better parts down the road without worries if a load is too much or not. If I were you I would get a 800watt PSU.

The build looks fine to me. Power supply looks good. You will always hear debate in video cards. I like Nvidia cards right now because they use less power, and are therefore quieter. But if you see that the AMD is better for the games you like, by all means go for it.

i would bump up the PSu to 600/650w. rest of the build is ..well, its just a copy paste of "best build for money" thread so yeah, you are ok.
personally, i prefer Windows 7. i dont like Metro (the UI, not the videogame) and i have had some performance issues with W8.1, which others have had too.
W7 otoh is just perfect.

I hope you want to daily overclock the CPU a bit otherwise it's a bit of a money waste.

The SSD isn't a newest generation model but maybe there's no important difference in features between series anymore due to maturity, I have an 840 evo and I'm happy with it and it has the important stuff like TRIM so....

this x100 for me

W10 is coming out soon enough so if he's buying an OS license he might just as well buy the one with the already announced free upgrade to W10 and deal with the metro UI for a a year or whatever it is (maybe less, I don't remember).

I wouldn't get the SSD, i'd recommend looking into Samsungs 850 series... Or better yet, a Intel 730 or Crucial MX100 series SSD. They are MLC drives that are going to last a lot longer... I don't know about you, but I never sell my hard drives... so I want them to last as long as possible... TLC drives are estimated to not last near as long as MLC drives.

As for the GTX 970, I'm not sure i'd recommend that card. Just know about the 3.5GB issue with that card. Nvidia partitioned the last .5GB of VRAM on that card and it's not really accessible to games after the latest drivers. A lot of people are pretty upset about the whole ordeal.

I like my R9 290X's, but they do require a little more power. If you decide to go with a R9 290X, i'd recommend looking into Sapphire's cards, they run nice cool and quiet with their Tri-X coolers.

As for the memory, you should really look into faster RAM. I recommend any one of these kits, manly the one that fits your color scheme:

Going from 1600MHz to 2400MHz RAM was a nice jump for me when I was gaming. Those are solid kits that work well with the newer boards. They have X.M.P. that is a a profile that is pre-set into the RAM so you don't have to manually adjust all of the settings, you just choose the profile in the BIOS and you are good to go.

What would be a good 700w or so psu, a few people are telling me to get more juice for it. I did switch to the R9 290x I didn't know it only did the 3.5gb of video ram

600 watts would be fine unless you want extra power for sli later. Since you wanted Seasonic in your first plan, there is no reason not to stick with that brand unless you run into a cost issue.

okay well with the new video card its saying its going to be using 502 watts...would 600 still be enough to run it well or should i go a bit higher in the 650 range?

I dont have a clue when it comes to psu's honestly

OK, don't know what card you have chosen, as it only shows 482 if I choose an XFX or Gigabyte 290x card, but like I said, 100 extra watts enough, but there is nothing wrong with stepping up if it makes you feel better. The main reason I have 650 watts is the great price on the unit at the time, and I wanted to make sure it would handle upgrades. It already lasted through an i5 Sandy Bridge to i7 Ivy Bridge upgrade, so it was worth it for me.
