I recently purchased a "Coolermaster SGK-4000-GKCL1-US CM Storm QuickFire Rapid" keyboard.

After years of staring at keys I never use and realizing I love mechanical boards, I went the "10 keyless mechanical route" and have been pretty damn happy with it.

I have that board. It is great. Mine has cherry brown keys which are a nice option for those that don't want to hear *clack clack clack*. I like how the board is smaller than most. I never needed a gigantic keyboard with tons of options.

I've had a Corsair K60 for about 3 years now. Super happy with the Mechanical Red Switches. When/if I upgrade, it'll likely be an RGB Corsair model. Highly recommend them.

Got the 710+, actually like it pretty well. Wouldn't go back to a logi membrane KB, too many failures. Was going to try a razer one on their recent sale but they seemed to have ridiculously limited quantities available so I didn't get one to try although they feel similar in store to the 710+.

I got a mechanical keyboard with brown switches. I like them, but can't compare them to other switches.

I like the letters printed on the front side of the keys instead of the top (won't wear out)

Full N-key rollover was a must have for me. (Need a ps/2 port to use though)

Only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is a backlight (I might mod it myself at a later date; we'll see)

Isn't there some way to laser etch the letters on so they can't wear down? I've compared all the different Cherry MX switches and my favorites are blues and Reds. I like the click of the blues for typing and I like the reds because they are light and just feel nice. Blacks were too heavy for me and browns were blues with no click and I like the click. I ended up buying a keyboard with MX Blue switches.

I have to ask though, what the heck do you need full N-key rollover for? When do you ever press more than 6 keys at a time? I know I never do or have. It's an often advertised feature of keyboards but I've never understood the usage.

I only very rarely need it, but every now and then I'd be playing a game where I had a number of keys held down with one hand and I'd die/lose because that next key my other hand needed to press didn't respond. It was annoying enough that I didn't even bother figuring out how many keys I really needed; I just never wanted it to be an issue again (in hindsight, 6 key rollover would probably be sufficient)

When playing an MMO or FPS game where I hold down the up key to walk forward it sometimes disconnects and I have to press even harder since membrane keyboards uses 2 condutors and the key itself has a connector to connect the 2 conductors together and can be inconsistent vs a mechanical switch that just works 10 times out of 10 no matter how you push the key. I'm a fast typist (75-80wpm) and sometimes letters are missed due to not completely pushing the key down on a membrane dome keyboard after a bit of wear and tear.

I have what is likely a 10+ year old membrane keyboard, an old kb-0133, and have never once had the issues you talk about. Are there issues with the use of ps/2 yes of course. The interface wasn't designed for large numbers of simultaneous key presses, also your likely issue and not the membrane contacts. But never has it it randomly lost connection.

Most key presses I can do 4-5ish at the same time, exactly the same time not almost but not quite the same time, but can be a few as two where if x and w are pressed then q does not work.

Well I get 4 with one hand very frequently. (Two directions, plus jump and sprint for example.) I could add a PTT bind for VoIP in there and that's just the right hand. If you really want to stretch it I could add 'spot' and hit 6 intentional presses at once with one hand. With transitions sometimes holding down three keys in movement at once and an unintentional key press in there I can see getting a non responsive key on occasion. If you do anything with both hands it wouldn't be super hard.

Other than that, music apps sometimes treat the keyboard as a piano with chords, etc. Brail entry requires at least 6 keys. Multiplayer games on the same keyboard can easily exceed 6.

For average gaming its more insurance than anything.

i still use only IBM Model M bucking spring keyboards for games. They do have their limitations, but, I have never found any reason to downgrade to something else.

It is called doubleshot injection molding in which the letters are actually plastic/material that go through the entire depth of the keycap. You can cut the top off the key and the letter will still be there since it is physically through the entire key. It will never wear off.

https://deskthority.net/wiki/Double-shot_molding

It is also the type of keys used on the keyboard I recommended earlier in this thread (which also has Full N-Key rollover):

What kind of games do you play? Have you never run into the limitation of pressing more than three keys at a time?

the "26" roll over keys apparently do not include the num-pad which I use extensively while gaming. Had to go with a keyboard that enabled roll-over for all keys.

Logitech K120 or whatever the update is... Low profile and disposable at about $10 for ragers.

Some gaming keyboards may be 6kro instead of full nkro. nkro is not difficult or expensive to implement with mechanical keyboards.

I think there are 2 kinds of laser etched keycaps. The one with infill material doesn't last as long since the infill can discolor or get slowly rubbed away. The other sort uses laser to etch the letters in a different color is more durable. Then there is dye sublimation and double shot keycaps which are very durable as well.

I'm on my third K70 rgb due to chattering. No issues from Corsair regarding RMA.

My WASD keyboard from years ago is still going strong I just wish it was backlit.

Hmm, interesting. I do not use the num pad for gaming, so I guess I have never noticed it.

I use the arrow keys for movement in most FPS (left over from playing too much Doom I guess). But it works for me.... assuming that I can use the num-pad. But with roll-over not supporting the num-pad I can't run forward, holding sprint, and then use the numpad to jump (for example).

Hence my need for a keyboard that supports num-pad rollover.

I have a K70 RGB that I bought after I spilled soda on my K95 (non-RGB). The K95 actually still works, but I wasn't sure if it would work again. Anyway, my complaint with it actually has to do with the software. Without the software installed, the media keys actually work, but with the software installed, they don't work at all. I've also found it harder than it should be to setup simple color schemes. For example, I actually like the default scheme that you get without the software installed (WASD in white, rest in red), but the only similar variant that I can find is the same coloring scheme with a slow breathe effect. I could probably figure out how to do it myself, but it seems like way too much work.

Just to color the keys is mad easy. The timing and pulsing stuff is more difficult, though. I'll see if I can make a profile for the default tonight. I've got a k65 (tenless), though, so not sure if I can.

For the topic, I had a Ducky Shine 3. I used it for almost a year before replacing it with a Corsair K65.

The issues with the Ducky:
1. It shipped with two Esc keys. One in the normal spot, and one where the F1 should have been. I had to send proof to them to get them to ship an F1 cap to me.

2. The spacebar squeaks after less than a year of use.

3. The USB cable is detachable. It seemed like a solid USB cable at first glance. However, the place it connects is recessed, and you have to push it in at an angle, and also remove it at an angle, so you end up bending the connector.

4. The backlights on random keys completely stopped working. First it was just the B, then over the next few days it amounted to I believe 6 random keys not lighting up at all. They say you can replace the LED, but I've ruined 2 tools and torn the plastic LED housing up pretty good, and still yet to get a single LED to detach from the keyboard.

I was still in return period at the time this happened, so it was definitely less than a year. However, I couldn't find the original black WSAD keycaps that came with it, so I was out of luck.

The issues with the Corsair:

Really love it. Only (very minor) issue I have had was when I connected it to a new PC, and installed a newer version of the software than I had on my old PC. I think it did a firmware update. But when I moved it back to my old PC, it would not work until I reinstalled the software.

im curious what do you use the num pad for?

I'm left handed so I use the arrow keys and numpad for weapon switch, item slots and actions (and numpad 0 for melee/knife). Back in Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out I was using my right hand on the F keys to execute skills hence taking my fingers off the movement keys so I always turned on autorun and used it and I kept telling myself "this is stupid" then one day I realized I could use the keypad and rebinded all the keys, what a life saver.

On some keyboards I've had in the past I noticed a rollover limit, sometimes pressing more than 4 keys such as when queuing macros in SWG, the 4th or 5th one wouldn't even work.
