The Xbox is what, A 700mhz w/a GF3 or some crap? How could these fools have messed up a simple port so bad?

really? Man, i really kinda wanted this game to be good. So far, the professional reviews have been very positive, but us gamers are not agreeing with them:

I would hold my purchase on this until they fix it (thats if they do). yomamma, i think half-life2 will run better than halo on your setup.

I'm just about to install the game in a few minutes. I think I'll hold off installing the patch, there isn't any word of it at any of the official (Bungie, Microsoft or Gearbox) Halo websites.

Holy Crap. I was reading this forum and all these people who dont even own the game yet are flaming it and each other. They all think that they know more than the other guy. Damn, just because a bunch of losers who have nothing better to do are talking crap on this game that they havent played yet, it isn't going to stop me from buying it. Im going to go have sex with my girlfriend now, and then maybe drink a beer...

It's 5am and I've been playing for about 7 hours now. It runs smooth on my rig - P4 2.4G, 512MB, 9500Pro. Patch installs automatically when you open Multiplayer.

yomamma - try disabling the anti-aliasing. It was chunky for me also until I turned off the AA.

Word has it that AA does not currently work in Halo. Thus, if left on, it becomes a potential source of polygon-chugging hell. Looks like an interesting deal at BB tho.

I dont know what those guys are saying. p4 2.2 gf4 128mb ocd 1 gig of ram and it runs fine at 1024*768 with details all the way up and sound all the way up (audigy)

Im at UCONN and im seeing crappy laptops play this with shared vid memory. They play at 640 860 but they are laptops so a decent desktop shoudl be ok

I too have heard that AA is not supported in HALO. Post-back if your issues get resolved....I really want to buy this game but only if it will run on an 1.4 athlon, ati9100.

From halo's website:
Specific Hardware Issues
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128
You may experience inconsistent graphic performance with textures if you set the Mipmap Detail Level in the ATI Direct3D Control Panel to any setting except High Quality.
NVIDIA
When you try to play Halo in any of the Full-Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) modes, you may experience difficulties. To resolve this issue, download and install the most recent drivers for this video card. If this does not resolve the issue, turn off the FSAA feature.
Via Motherboard Chipsets
If you have a Via brand motherboard, you may experience graphical and performance issues during game play. To resolve this issue, update to the latest ?4-in-1? motherboard chipset drivers.
Supported Video Cards
Halo requires a minimum of 32 megabytes (MB) of video memory and a chipset that supports Hardware Transform and Lighting. When a card is classified as supported it means that Halo will work with that card and that you may contact Microsoft Product Support to resolve any Halo issues that you are having with that card.

Just to let you guys know some things about HaloPC...

It runs just fine on my 800Mhz P3, 256 Megs of PC133 Ram, Ti4200 128 Meg card

The patch that was released was for the multiplayer online, it disabled the previous crack that allowed you to download the game and play online, but the Patch was hacked within 5 hours of official release so that is why when you play you may see some servers that say Cracked as you can only play on Cracked servers if you have the Cracked game...

But the game is pretty good... not too much of an improvement over the XBOX version, The new weapons are alright, Flamethrower is too powerful and the Fuel Rod Gun is too weak, Banshee is fun, but its even more fun to shoot them out of the sky with a tank...

If you liked Halo on XBox I would recommend trying this out, the MODs that are going to be coming out for it are probably going to be worth it

FYI, I have a 1 GHz, Ti 4200 with 256 MB and the game runs fine at 1024x768. I never played the Xbox version so the game was new to me. Frankly, I don't know what the hype is all about. I 've been playing for 30 min and I am already bored. It's just the same old same ole .... I find HOHAA, Spearhead, Breakthrough to be much better IMHO.

no problems for me too... pre-ordered from EB... been playing it a lot and reached 3rd mission. P4-2.1 SB Live, 1G DDR, 9500 Pro with catalyst 3.6. 1024x768 high to medium settings
smooth gameplay so far. More detailed than the Xbox version (which I finished) but seems to be missing som effects. Light coming from the flashlight seems dull. But It wouldn't have occured to me if I hadn't played the Xbox version. Will try multiplayer during the weekend.

OK. After more experimentation it seems the "Specular" video setting is the culprit. Turning that off makes ALL the differance for me. I now have everything else maxed @ 1024x768 and the intro fight scenes are ~20-30fps (guess). Playable enough to stop me bitching, not smooth-ass-butter like we'd all like.

FWIW I'm running 6.14.10.4523 Nvidia drivers.

Cheers!

Runs alright on my 2.2G athlon xp, 512mb, Radeon 9500 Pro.

I've played about halfway through on xbox. Legendary is hella frustrating single player without co-op. It's too bad they couldn't make it work on pc, it makes some of the more repetitive level designs tolerable. The game is fun though, and the story's pretty good. Team CTF needs voice chat! Multiplay is a good time.

I'd have to say its "pretty cool" but not "great".

Its definately worth a 40 dollar purchase.

From Microsoft

After Halo was released to manufacturing but before it arrived on store shelves, the Halo team discovered a potential crashing issue when playing Halo multiplayer online. In order to guarantee the best possible experience for our customers we have issued an update (v1.01) that addresses this issue. Before you can play Halo multiplayer online you will need to allow this update to install through the auto-install feature of Halo or by running haloupdate.exe from your Halo installation folder.

It doesn't say anything about framerate performance.

Do you think Halo is slow or performs poorly?

I think I'm gonna pick this up today.
