So I built my PC (Big Black) in April of 2005 and I've had sooo many problems with it. I've had to wipe the drive and start over at least a dozen times since I've built it. Probably the longest running time I've had it in normal working order is maybe five or six months...these are not exaggerations. Almost every time it's something weird...like stupid microsoft problems. I've just had another one that has rendered it pretty much useless again. And this pattern is just getting really frustrating, as you could guess. So a friend of mine thinks maybe it's the systemboard. When I built Big Black, I took another friend's advice of going with DFI...and I've heard a lot of good about them. So I have a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D, and I paid about $115 for it, so, I mean, it's not a POS board or anything.

So some of the stupid things that happen are like bad writes to the boot sector and stuff like that and that's why he thinks it could be the board because if it has a semi-bad circuit somewhere, that could cause the stupid things to happen or bad writes to drives every now and then, which makes sense, because I'm using a WD drive and a Seagate drive...so the drives should both be good too. But I've had the board replaced with the same one a few months ago because I thought it was at fault for the PC not starting up (it was the PSU...imagine that)...so what do you think?

I started having a ton of problems when I switched to vista and my first reaction was to blame ms for all of them. Well since that time I've come to learn that it wasn't all vista and that my ram was failing. I ran memtestx86 v1.7 and learned that my high dollar corsair is kicking the bucket. I ordered new stuff to replace my current mb/cpu/ram so I can have a functional system while my memory is being rma'd back to corsair. I would try running memtest to see if your ram is ok. And yes a weak or dying ps will cause all kinds of problems for your pc.

Where do I find memtestx86 v1.7...or a memtest in general?

And the PS isn't the problem I'm talking about...that was just a side note. It's the system board I'm talking about mainly.

Does anybody else have any suggestions or agree with the memory thing or the system board thing?
