I used a PCPnC 1000W in school to run my QX9770 and HD4870Xfire, it worked so well I bought myself a 750W unit and have had it in at least 5 different computers. In order of reliability:
Seasonic/XFX - God tier
PCPnC/Antec/Old corsair - Awesome
Everything else especially coolermaster - Dont buy them

PCP&C Turbo-Cool 550, I think, set a new standard for that industry. If it didn't, it was "top-shelf" some years back.

Eventually, they were selling a line of "Silencers." All of the Silencers were rebadged Seasonics.

I wish I'd saved the link, but someone did an analysis of PSU's by brand, tracing their actual manufacture to the source. Seasonic was one of two -- at most three makers -- who had no rebranded units in their product lines -- which were exclusively of their own manufacture.

A lot of XFX units are actually rebranded Seasonics.

I think it could be an oversimplifying choice to stick with one manufacture of PSU without periodically rechecking reviews and ratings. But I've used Seasonic exclusively since 2007. They all had 5-year warranties, and if any appeared to be going south, it was after the sixth year. That particular unit had been abused: it was allowed to remain in sleep state for days at a time without hibernation.

One exception: I purchased a Rosewill Fortress 650 last fall and installed it in a family-member's workstation. It was a "Platinum" model with a 7-year warranty.

I can confirm 100% of our PSU SKU's are Seasonic rebranded to XFX. No exceptions

+1 to that, and you guys have awesome support.

I *had* the 750 watt Silver semi-modular, bought because it was Seasonic inside.

Through bad luck it died, and I was sent a brand new 750 watt Gold.

So XFX is my first choice for PSU right now.

What had given me some amazement recently was a Hardware Secrets review of an XFX 750W unit which had been pushed beyond that rated level to provide as much as 900W before the protection circuitry kicked it off.

This may be more or less characteristic of good PSUs, regardless of manufacture. After seeing the analysis someone posted on the web showing all brands and their manufacture origins, I'll definitely keep these rebranded models in my sights, the next time I need to buy another PSU.

I had one of the old XFX core 650w units, with the lime green fans. One of the best PSU's ive ever owned. Thats why I put XFX up with seasonic as far as reliability goes, as far as I knew, all XFX units were just seasonic units on the inside. Looks like my suspicions were confirmed. Also, XFX is my favorite video card brand too, or at least they were when they had double lifetime warranties....

What's the new favorite then? Seems to me XFX still offers the best warranty of any Radeon manufacturer, and has the best support. And the R7/R9 series coolers aren't too shabby at all, it was the 7000 series cooling that was a bit shaky. And they still tend to be cheaper than the "big three" (asus, msi, gigabyte) that offer 3 year warranty. All (?) of the other brands only have 2 year warranty - Powercolor, Club3D, Sapphire, etc. At least there's some choice among NVIDIA cards when it comes to service - Zotac cards are 5 years with registration, topping EVGA's standard 3 year warranty.

Could not resist.

Maybe go Triple 390 with it???

After experiences I've had with PSUs over a couple decades, I wouldn't buy a "used" one.

Maybe I said it above -- can't remember. I just decommissioned a system with a 650W Seasonic that had been running continuously for 7 years. It didn't seem that there was any problem with the PSU before I took the system apart.

But I just decided to cut off all the useful cables and send it to the recyclers. That was a lot of years on a single PSU. Maybe it might have lasted a few more years, I couldn't say. But sometimes, you just have to say "**** it!" and ditch the well-used parts.

True, I am going to run it on a non critical system for a bit, then live dangerously. :hmm:

Good luck with a used PSU by any vendor, prolly ran for five years straight and has swollen leaky caps. I'm sure its fine though......If you want a good and BIG PSU get an EVGA when they go on sale. I got a 1300W G2 less then $200

I'm going to open it and check it out; PC Power and Cooling is known for making over engineered units.
