I've seen them at local computer shows for $1. From what I've been told, they won't work with non-Packard Bell computers.

I have one of these. I have yet to find software that works reasonably well.
You can get it to work, but it takes an enormous amount of effort mucking with
a bunch of freeware software with less than intuitive documentation.

$15 is no deal. Go look on EBAY.

Have you tried girder ? When I was using it ... I thought it worked reasonably okay ... except for the curson pad ...

I totally agree with you Longhorn. They are fun the first time around, but after formatting your drive and having to reinstall and set up the software. They can be really time consuming. So mine just sits on top of my monitor collecting dust. I also have the ones designed for Packard Bell which works fine on my non-packard bell system. When I have it up and running. Anyone know of some updated software for these remotes. In the past, I had to start one program for IR recognition portion of the remote, and then start the program which runs my applications using the remote.

I think it was Sun818 who used to sell these here. I bought one a LONG time ago but sold it last year.

I have an AST remote that I bought off ebay. I used Girder with it and it works great. Girder lets you export your settings too so everything still works after I format.

Yeah GIRDER all the way. I have no problems with my reciever on a non packard bell unit. I don't use the included remote though, just the reciever.

bought 3 of these eons ago for 7 bucks a piece on egay, definately takes time to set up, but not too bad in a dorm room when you're too lazy to get off your loft when watching your divx.

My brother use to have one of those way back when he first got his Pentium 100 Packard Bell Computer. I thought that was so cool to have a remote on the comp like that.

Yeah, you *should* be able to. You just have to learn the command patterns outputted by specific remote. Some are more easily learned then others. I tried messing around with the one that comes with the Live! Platinum and that one is impossible.
