Hi,
Suddenly I am facing with strange issue in my PC.
When I try to shutdown my PC with Win XP it restarts instead of shutdown.
I have to manually cut off power when pc shuts down, otherwise in 1-2 secs it again restarts.
I have used default BIOS, also I formated my PC (C drive with XP) but in vain, problem still persist.
I also disabled "autorestart in case of system failure" but I don't get any BSOD while shuting down.
PC is working fine but only problem is I can not shutdown, when I shutdown pc restarts.
Pls assist.
Any Help in this will be highly appreciated. :awe:
Thanks in advance.
Bregds.........

(My PC config. Intel core2duo 2.93 ghz, Intel DG41WV motherboard,
2GB DDR3 kingston Ram, WD 320 GB HDD)

Hmm.. That is unfortunatley a pretty uncommon problem. You might want to try to go into your system setting and find out how to restore defaults if you have accidentally done something.

Depending if u live near a best buy or not, geek squad is a great computer helper resource

Holy shit...I don't think I've ever heard ANYONE recommend Geek Squad.

I don't have XP handy to check where these are at, but you should be able to configure what the power button does. It will give options such as "shut down, hibernate/sleep, reboot."

Somewhere in the control panel IIRC.

There may also be options in your BIOS for power button function.

Edit: Here's a few links that may help:

Do you have Roxio? Some versions can cause this behavior.

Check the event logs to see if there are any errors during shutdown.

Yeah, they will charge you at least $200 for a problem like this and probably make it worse. LOL

This is probably a long shot, but how are you connected to a monitor? I had a PC and when it was connected to a monitor's HDMI input it would do the same thing.

Driver issue is what I've seen most with this problem. When you re-installed, did you use the same drivers?

Does it occur in "Safe Mode"?

Try booting from a Linux "live" cd and see if the problem persists. If it does not, would seem to be a software issue. If it does, likely hardware.

Check the power on options in the Bios. I once had this problem after adding a PCI sound card. There was something to the effect of "wake up by lan" which I changed from Enabled to Disabled and no longer had the problem. It may be one of the other power on options in your case.
