I've played PC games for a really long time and I also play PS2 but usually only racing, sports or RPG's. I'm trying to get into playing shooters on consoles but the control scheme is hard for me to pick up.

Just curious how other people go from mouse and keyboard to a xbox or ps2 controller for shooters.

Quite honestly...I don't. I can't stand console shooters. It's much too inaccurate and clunky.

It depends on the game... like Golden Eye for the 64 was the ******! Then right now I am playing Gears of War and that is fun! But I agree most FPS on the console have horrible control schemes.

I would perfer to play a FPS on a PC but the whole reason I made the switch to consoles is because less cheating such as head shot scripts or injectors or some crap like that but in turn I got into games that people use "glitches" or bugs in the game that allow them to do certain things that are not suppose to happen and that ****** sucks!

Less cheating.........
Normally I would use the roll eyes emoticon here but its getting to be pretty annoying.

You do realize that the console games have MASSIVE auto-aim enabled at all times?

I agree.
I don't know why console designers don't say "Hmm, people are having to put an autoaim function into every game made on these things.... maybe we should find a better alternative to the analog stick." They don't realize a problem with having to create an autoaim feature? That obviously means something doesn't work out correctly.

A couple of weeks ago I rented an xbox360 and Gears of War, Ghost Recon and a couple of other games (for my 12 year old and his buddy . I had never touched a controller or played on a console before....well..as long as Pong and Atari don't count. It was like wiping my butt with my left hand (right handed I am). Pain in the ass and no joy. I am sure that given time I would get the hang of it but I'm happy with me mouse.

It's tough. But I can handle it. It'll be about one hour before I really get the hang of it and even then my aim will be mediocre, but it's sufficient for killing.

I so much prefer pc controls for shooters. There must be some conventional reasoning why they aren't offered on modern consoles. I suppose it has something to do with keeping from crossing the line into direct competition with pc hardware and functions.

I don't. The only thing I ever play on consoles is fight games. Everything else is way better with a computer.

For consoles I am fine with using the d-pad to aim, like the two Medal of Honor games for PS1. I just can't stand using the analog stick, i.e. MOH Frontline for PS2. Why do EA had to change the control scheme. Anyone feels the same way?

Anyway, those are the only FPS I'd ever tried on a console. I'd like know if there are any other shooters for PS2 that allows you to use the d-pad to aim and move?

Thanks.

Well, I thought all of them did, but the idea is that once you get used to the sticks, you perform better and wont go back.

Sort of like making the mouse transition with DOS and Windows games.
I recall that Quake actually played OK with just a keyboard but by the time Quake 2 rolled around using a mouse was standard.

f you think FPS's with a gamepad are hard, I was playing Call Of Duty 3 on my GF's Wii, that took hard to a whole new level. I semi suck on Xbox's playing Halo, COD3 with the Wiimote and Nunchuck I flat out was horrible. Now I didn't give it much time to get use to it, but for the 5 minutes I did play ugh...

I think your so conventional reasoning goes in line with not having a place to put the keyboard and mouse. Consoles are traditional played on the TV in the living room, and it's not acceptable to be expected to sit on the floor with your keyboard and mouse on the coffee table or something.

I'm sure somebody will think they are smart and tell me they use their console on their PC monitor and everything is right there, but we're talking about the non-technical masses.

And just for the record, I always hate these stupid keyboard/mouse versus controller bullsh|t threads. Yes, a keyboard/mouse combo does provide superior control for all regular gamers, as it's easy to understand and start with. But you guys act like it's the be-all, end-all of control schemes. Don't get me wrong, I do think that ultimately, the kb/mouse is the best control out there for FPS games, but I stand by my thought that an experienced person using analog sticks could hold his own very well fighting a person using a kb/mouse.

I disagree. I think if you put the best 10 KB/Mouse gamers and the best 10 controller gamers head to head in any FPS that they are both great at. The PC gamers would win 10 of 10 match ups.

I have no doubt there are plenty of people who use controllers that could kill me, but I'm not a great player, so that is why I would compare even match ups.

Nothing is more frustrating than when I sit down with a buddy and play some console shooter and he pwns me. You just think to yourself... if I had my mouse & keyboard... grrrrrr

Playing FPS on a console makes me feel like a Jerry's Kid. I can usually get the movement down ok, but when it comes time to shoot I just spaz out and hit 9 different buttons.

I got my butt handed to me by a 7 year old playing Halo on the Xbox because I just could not get used to the controller. I really wish I had been able to use keyboard/mouse...

Yep, if they dont get auto-aim theyre screwed. Fair enough though, give the pc gamers controllers and the console ones mouses and the pc gamers would get screwed.

That's not even true. Many have auto-aim turned off during multiplayer. Other than that it hardly matters since everyone has the same advantage... it's not like someone using an aimbot on a PC game.

Either way, I'm quite good at both KB/M and controllers. Personally, I think controllers are actually more realistic since you actually have to hold your aim steady as opposed to a mouse which is just point and click. But that said I still prefer the PC for serious multiplayer since I like faster paced multiplayer games like UT. All my casual gaming is done on consoles... and since 95% of my gaming is casual I do most of my gaming on consoles.

The console controller plus my love for FPSes is one of the driving reasons behind why I stick with the PC.

Give me a controller console that can do BOTH of these things and I'll reconsider:
Whip rapidly to a new direction (say 90 or 180 degrees in a fraction of a second)
Give immediate pixel level accuracy for precision aiming.

I should be able to see a rocket go flying by over my head from behind then whip a 180 and pick which eye I want to railgun you in all within 1/4 of a second or less.
