PC slow after game exits to desktop

Hey Guys,

I've noticed that whenever I exit from a recent "heavy type" game (Doom3, MOH series, COD, etc..) my

system for the next few moments [after game exit to desktop] is extremely sluggish.

Meaning my desktop takes a few minutes to refresh/recover itself (black patches of non-video in certain areas),

hour glass on icon in waiting state, screen flickers, etc...

eventualy (after approx 30-40secs) everything seems to return to normal...

Is this normal? Can anything be done to improve recovery time?

any feedback/tips/tricks would be appreciated

my specs:

P4 3.0Ghz
2x80GB Raid 0
512MB OCZ
ATI 9500Pro 128Mb - CAT4.9
Pagefile 2 x 800mb (on 2 separate partitions)

sounds like those games are probably sucking up all youre memory resources. try another stick of mem

If it returns to normal after 30-40secs, it most likely the game freeing the memory it was using, and this may take awhile b/c the game allocates a larger single pool of memory from the system when it starts. Then, as memory is needed in the game, the internal MMU of the game allocates memory. So, what you're most likely experiencing is the freeing of the large chunk of memory, which may take awhile depending on how fragmented the chunk is. Hope this helps.
